WELCOME Welcome to the 21st Annual Croissant Red Angus Production Sale. This year’s offering of 80 head of PAP tested yearling bulls is outstanding. You will have the opportunity to choose from some new bloodlines this year that continue our commitment to influence your affluence. We are happy to have the Sorensen family join us again this year; they brought over some great bulls. We also welcome two new members to the team, Ryan Goodman and Wade Yoder. Ryan joined the team this fall, quickly making an impact in the operation upscaling Kevin’s technology base. Wade joined right after the first of the year. He will be with us until he goes back to Oklahoma State University to finish his degree this fall. We are blessed to have such a great crew helping out every day. Influence of Affluence – what does this mean to you, our customer? It is our commitment in genetic decisions that make profitability the key trait. Our approach balances cowherd traits and post weaning traits, that make it possible to have genetics that rank in the top of the breed for overall profitability. This has been a multigenerational endeavor that we stake our reputation on. For generations, we have utilized large contemporary groups to accurately describe the cattle. Our management approach starts by applying pressure on the reproductive traits, so you know you’re getting the highest quality bull possible. The bulls represented here come from cows that are exposed for 30 days as heifers and 45 days as cows. All open cows are sold, no excuses. The bulls are then sorted to remove disposition and structure issues, we take care of those before they become an issue for you. As you look at different seedstock supplier programs, ask yourself, “Is this the way I would do it?” We take data seriously. Information is recorded on not only the seedstock animals, but also the ones that didn’t make the cut, and has been turned in for evaluation. For many, many years we have collected and recorded actual carcass records, how many seedstock suppliers can say that? All the data recording and DNA makes the EPDs as accurate as possible. To help make it easier, the breed has developed and reformulated the indices ProS, HB & GM. This upgrade adds different components of Profit analysis. HB is built for profit predictors on ranch, GM is based on profit post weaning, while ProS takes both of these and provides a full system profit predictor. We recommend using ProS & then make component trait refinement in making your bull selections. Please take time to look over the EPD definitions on the next page. RED ANGUS BULLS Red Angus Guide to EPDS and ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).
HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).
Indexes
GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).
CED .......Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)
CEM ......Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value)
BW ........Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value)
STAY......Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value)
WW .......Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value) YW ........Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value) ADG .......Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value) DMI .......Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value) MILK .....Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. RED ANGUS BULLS CATALOG INFORMATION: All EPDs, including carcass, have been updated to reflect the latest performance data including ultrasound and DNA Genomic Panels. Percentile rankings are listed below the EPD table. The measurement data with their in-herd performance ratios are listed in a table just to the right of the pedigree. Scrotal measurements will be on a supplement sheet available sale day and posted on our website as soon as they are completed. We present all the data on all the bulls to make your selection easier and more complete! We are available to help you interpret any information in this catalog, give us a call or stop by. Sale day announcements will take precedence over the catalog information. EPDs: Before reading the following definitions, one must come to terms with what is called base. The range
of each EPD is adjusted by a constant which does not change the sensitivity, but moves its average away from zero. Red Angus EPDs are multi-breed and calculated by the BOLT system. The breeds involved are all on the same base and can be directly compared. The percentile ranking we publish represents the rank of the individual in the Red Angus Breed. A 50% percentile rank is the average for the breed. To compare two bulls, take the difference of their Weaning Weigh EPDs to see the expected differences in their progeny. An example would be: bull 1 with a WW of 75 and bull 2 with a WW of 55, bull 1 would produce, on average, a calf crop with a 20 pound higher weaning weight. This simple example shows how the comparison could be applied for each of the traits.
PAP SCORES: For the last four years we have been working with Dr. Holt to provide PAP scores on all the bulls. Below is a risk assessment chart that Dr. Holt has put together to help relay the risk level of the bulls offered depending on what elevation they are going to be used. In this effort we have taken the extreme risk bulls, according to Dr. Holt, and culled them from the sale group. These bulls do not go on to sire calves anywhere. This is one of the efforts that we make to improve the genetics
that we offer not only for our high-country producers, but to make a positive impact on the beef industry to lower incidence of brisket disease in the feedyards that your calves will continue on to. We feel that it is our responsibility, as genetic providers, that we look beyond just the traditional traits that impact the overall profitability of the beef production system. SALE INFORMATION Our Goal: Produce functional cattle for our short grass semi-arid environment and provide honest value and service to our customers.
Our Program: Our program is founded on balanced trait selection using proven sires. We put the emphasis on Carcass, Maintenance, and Reproductive traits including low birth weight and do not chase extreme growth. These traits add value through carcass quality, lower maintenance costs, increased longevity of the females, and reduced labor inputs with the added benefit of the accompanying “convenience traits”. We focus on fertile, easy handling females with mothering ability. The cattle presented here are out of cows that are bred to work within our limited resources, producing calves that excel at weaning, perform in the feedyard and add value on the rail. We hold our females to a “no excuses” production criteria. If they can’t raise a calf every year in our environment they are culled from the herd.
Development Program: The bulls are developed on the ranch. After weaning the bulls are grazed out on pasture for a month and then fed a high-quality roughage ration with a vitaminmineral supplement to gain 3.25 lb./day on average. The bulls are kept in a large dry pen, which gives plenty of exercise. We do not target 1,300 or 1,400 lb. yearling weights. The development program is designed for the bulls to make their own way on the range and hold up to the rigors of their first breeding season.
Health: Bulls have had their branding, preconditioning, and weaning shots of 5-way BRD, Pasteurella, 7-way Somnus, parasite control, and StayBred VL5. Dr. Shoemaker will fertility test all bulls and the results will be provided for each bull sold.

SALE INFORMATION SALE TERMS: • Animals are unconditionally guaranteed to be sound breeders for the first breeding season. We do not guarantee against injury or illness. • Each animal will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the seller for a reasonable time after the sale. Animals need to be picked up by April 15th. • The bulls will have passed a Breeding Soundness exam before sale day. • Free delivery of bulls within Colorado, or within 500 miles, beyond will be at cost. $20,000 or more in purchases qualifies for free delivery in the continental US. Deliveries will be scheduled as soon after the sale as possible.

Buyer has full possession & full salvage value. • Registration papers will be transferred to the buyer which provides eligibility for RAAA FCCP. • Announcements from sale block take precedence over printed catalog.
