EPD (Expected Progeny Differences) are the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database of the American Angus Association. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Every animal selling in Stucky Ranch sales have EPDs which have been genomically enhanced from individual genomic tests being added to the base pedigree index EPD values. Also, every animal selling in Stucky Ranch sales have the highest accuracy carcass EPDs possible. This is resulting from individual carcass ultrasound data in large contemporary groups processed by the American Angus Association.
CED (Calving Ease Direct) is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first calf heifers.
BW (Birth Weight EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
WW (Weaning Weight EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
YW (Yearling Weight EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
SC (Scrotal Circumference EPD), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Milk (Maternal Milk EPD), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. The part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to mother’s milk.
CW (Carcass Weight EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the difference in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Marb (Marbling EPD), expressed as a fraction of the differences in the USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
RE (Ribeye Area EPD), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in the ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Fat (Fat Thickness EPD), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Doc (Docility EPD) is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility
HP (Heifer Pregnancy EPD) characterizes differences among sires for the daughter’s heifer pregnancy. Reported in units of percentage, a higher EPD sire would be expected to have daughters with a greater probability of becoming pregnant than a sire with a lower EPD.
$Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), an index expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences from conception to weaning. $M traits include calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, milk, heifer pregnancy, docility, mature cow weight, claw set and foot angle.
$Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for pre-weaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size.
$Grid Value ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires.
$Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for post-weaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
$Combined Value ($C), an index expressed in dollars per head, includes all 15 traits involved in $M and $B. $C aims for maximum profitability with cowherds that retain some heifers for replacements, but retain ownership on cull heifers and all steers through the feedlot and sell on a quality based carcass grid.
Production Measurements:
BW – Actual birth weight taken day of calving.
205 – Weaning weight adjusted to 205 day equivalent and dam’s age.
365 – Yearling weight adjusted to 365 day equivalent.
Hip ht. – Actual hip height taken at yearling and adjusted to 365 day equivalent.
SC – Scrotal circumference measured to the nearest 0.5 centimeter and adjusted to 365 day equivalent.
Disposition Score – Each animal has been evaluated numerous times throughout the growing period and has been assigned a numerical score for disposition. We eliminate animals from our system that are too nervous to be manageable in most any operation. However, we caution that when one animal is taken from a large group and put by itself it will usually not have a relaxed attitude.
1 = Docile 4 = Flighty
2 = Restless 5 = Aggressive
3 = Nervous
6 = Very Aggressive
Dam Udder Score – The dam has been evaluated for udder quality the day of calving, and has been assigned a two part score for teat size and udder suspension. Teat size is listed first, then udder suspension. Teat Size
Suspension
– Very Large

Bulls will be delivered to your ranch, free of charge, anywhere in Kansas and the bordering states of Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, and Colorado. Bulls purchased outside of this area will be delivered to your ranch or a reasonable drop off point FOB. Four bulls or more purchased by one buyer will receive a 5% discount off the total sale price. Pick up your bulls on sale day and receive a $25 per bull discount. A purchase of 10 or more heifers by one buyer will earn free delivery anywhere in Kansas and bordering states. A purchase of 10 or more heifers by one buyer will also earn a 5% discount off the total sale price. Purchases of less than 10 head of heifers to one buyer will be delivered to your ranch or a reasonable drop off point FOB.

We have developed a scoring system to help you successfully purchase bulls best suited for the needs of your herd. The EPD system is the most reliable format to help identify the genetic merit of beef animals. However, it can be somewhat overwhelming to fully understand. To aid in your bull selections, we designed a simple scoring system on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being undesirable and 10 being most desirable for a particular trait. We have detailed below the considerations for each trait and what impacts the final score a bull achieves for each of the four economically relevant traits. While we recommend the study of all the data we present on each bull, this scoring system is meant as an aid to confirm the best bulls to achieve your goals, with your herd, in the beef industry.
Bulls with a score of 8-9 will be suitable for use on yearling heifers. These bulls have “Recommended for heifers” below the trait box. Considerations for this score include: Calving Ease Direct EPD, DNA profile scores for calving ease and birth weight, CED and BW EPDs from the sire and dam of the bull. This system has been used successfully by many customers achieving nearly 100% unassisted calving rates from large groups of heifers. Bulls with a score of 7 are fine to use on cows, but not initially recommended for use on heifers. In our breeding program, we avoid the use of higher birth weight EPD sires and dams to keep consistent calving ease and avoid the occasional extreme heavy birth weight calf. Herd management of the females in the weeks prior to calving can also play a significant role in the calving ability of a first calf heifer.
PERFORMANCE
Bulls with a score of 9 rank in the top 35% for yearling weight EPD in the National Cattle Evaluation database for non-parent Angus bulls. They will sire more pounds of beef whether selling at weaning or yearling. Bulls with a score of 8 rank in the top 50% for yearling weight EPD. These bulls also score well in genomic testing to help confirm their breeding value. Our goal is to use top performance bulls in the Angus breed, yet stay in the mid-range percentiles for frame size. This is important when retaining females that will peak at yearling and then maintain a moderate mature size with superior body capacity and fleshing ability. It’s not how big they get, it’s how quick they get big enough.
Bulls with a score of 9 have a $Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) in the top 35% of the NCE for non-parent Angus bulls. $Maternal combines the EPD traits of Calving Ease Direct, Weaning Weight, Calving Ease Maternal, Milk, Mature Weight, Docility, Heifer Pregnancy, and Foot quality into one selection tool. $Maternal aims to decrease overall mature cow size and improve foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent in today’s production. The udder quality of the bull’s dam is also factored into our score. The dam must score an 8 or higher on teat size and udder suspension for the bull to score a 9 in our trait score system. Our goal is superb udder quality in your replacement females.
Bulls with a score of 9 have a $Grid Value ranking in the top 35% of the database for non-parent Angus bulls. Bulls with a score of 8 must rank in the top 50% for $Grid Value. $Grid Value is expressed in dollars per carcass. It is the difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit, including quality and yield grade attributes, compared to progeny of other sires. Investing in superior carcass genetics pay the producer if you retain ownership and sell them on a quality grid. Bulls identified with the Certified Angus Beef Targeting the Brand logo also helps give cattlemen the genetic ability to strive to produce cattle which qualify and receive the carcass premium meeting CAB specifications.

Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 33rd Annual Production Sale. On behalf of the entire Stucky family, we invite you to join us on March 11 for an outstanding set of 129 age advantaged Registered Angus bulls and 78 herd building females.
We’re all living through a rare moment in the beef business—strong markets, strong demand, and a consumer who continues to choose high quality beef. As someone who has spent a lifetime in the American Angus Association and Certified Angus Beef programs, it’s been rewarding to see more than 1.2 billion pounds of CAB product sold across the U.S. and 55 other countries in 2025. For producers who have focused on breeding cattle that hit the mark for quality, it’s been a year that proves the value of disciplined selection.
At Stucky Ranch, we’re committed to pushing our breeding program even further. We believe a great Angus cow should be the natural result of our selection goals—not an accident. The American Angus Association’s tools for $Maternal selection have allowed us to emphasize the traits that matter most: calving ease, weaning weight, milk, heifer pregnancy, docility, mature cow size, and foot quality.
As ranchers, we no longer have to choose between maternal strength and carcass merit. The real opportunity is in combining both—building cows that work for you every day while producing calves that fit today’s high quality beef market. The progress being made in this direction is exciting, and we’re proud to contribute our small part to it.
Of the bulls selling this year, 93% meet the Certified Angus Beef Targeting the Brand® specifications, and 100% of the registered females do as well. 74% of the bulls rank in the top third of the Angus database for $Combined Value, along with 86% of the registered heifers. Depth, quality, and consistency run throughout this offering.
As you study the sale cattle, our website will feature a sortable Excel spreadsheet with every EPD, $Value, and performance measure— making it easy to sort and identify the cattle that best fit your program. Individual lot videos will be available after March 1 on our website and on DV Auction. If we can help you sort through the data or talk through your bull needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
We’re blessed with a crew that keeps this place running. Nic Lampe continues to do an outstanding job day in and day out. Our day help crew— Scott L., Blaine, Jerry, Scott H., and Randy—are appreciated more than they know. We’re also mindful that we’re only caretakers of God’s creation, and we hope to leave it better than we found it.
Sale cattle will be penned for viewing on Tuesday by 3 p.m., followed by our steak supper at 6 p.m. Sale day viewing begins at 10 a.m., with a beef lunch at 11:30, and the sale starting promptly at 1 p.m.
Thank you to all our past customers for your continued trust and support. We look forward to visiting with you and meeting new friends on sale day.
Best regards,

Gordon

We strive to produce a set of bulls and heifers that the last one looks very similar to the first one. Consistency in the commercial cattle industry pays huge dividends vs. variability in type and kind.

This year we are offering commercial and registered heifers at auction for the first time in several years. We will begin with 25 open commercial heifers, selling in groups of five. They are home-raised from our registered cowherd, giving commercial producers the opportunity to purchase our genetics without competing with registered breeders. Though they sell without papers, each heifer has been registered and have their genetic information listed to document quality.
Selling next will be 10 elite spring born registered open heifers. Featured here are some of the oldest daughters of KA Kindred and Henke Historic to sell anywhere. They are loaded with unique genetics that bring together the best of calving ease, performance, and carcass merit in a consistent maternal type that isn’t available for sale often.
Rounding out the offering are 43 top-end registered fall bred heifers. These girls have jumped through all the hoops for quality and performance, with many bred to the newly acquired $240,000 ABS top seller, KCF Bennett Legacy. These heifers have been ultrasound pregnancy examined by Dr. Joel Anderson, Cross Country Genetics North, and sell guaranteed pregnant to the breeding date. The arithmetic is right, and there are many future donor prospects with herd building quality in this group. All heifers descend from our 40+ year one-iron cowherd that is many generations deep in goal oriented selection for all the traits of economic importance!

Legacy is the record $240,000 high selling bull from Knoll Crest Farms to the ABS bull stud. He is a heavy muscled, calving ease bull with top 10% rankings for CED, Yearling Weight, foot quality, carcass weight, marbling, and ribeye. His dam is a Pathfinder with a 105 ratio on 3 calves and bred first service each year with 362 day calving interval. The heifers selling guaranteed safe to Legacy will produce some of his first born calves. ABS

Commerce 345 lays the groundwork for super easy heifer calving with a top 3% CED at +15, yet comes in with a superior yearling weight and carcass quality backed by a ribeye area EPD in the top 2% of the breed. Connealy Commerce has stamped his progeny with an abundance of body capacity and base width to complement their structural soundness and ease of movement. Top 5% $Maternal with top 10% $Combined.

Few sires in our history have exceeded our progeny expectations like Historic. Historic bull and heifer progeny are dominating our sire groups with respect to calving ease and superior performance, foot quality, disposition, and structural soundness. His projections for carcass merit along with teat and udder quality seamlessly blend a total package value rarely seen in current Angus sires. He ranks in the top 10% or higher for $Maternal, $Beef, and $Combined.
