Letter to OUR Buyers Welcome to our spring edition, private treaty bid off sale. We will be offering 40 Simmental and SimAngus yearlings. All of the bulls are homozygous black and 37 are homozygous polled. The bulls excel with high calving ease, light birth weights, and optimum growth. They are backed by high quality cows selected for disposition, fleshing ability, and udder quality. We had an excellent grass season in 2016 and our performance has been tremendous. The spring steer mates paid on 756 lbs. this year straight off the cows, the 17th of October. We kept the top 31% of the bulls for the sale this spring. They are the top end that we feel will advance your herd and be problem free. The bulls weaned heavy, as well, with multiple bulls over 800 lbs. They have continued to perform and their health has been problem free. The bulls received two rounds of shots on the cows and were then fence line weaned. They are all BVD PI negative and will be semen tested prior to the 15th. We are offering several bulls by our new herd sire, IRON HIDE this spring. I have been searching for a bull of his quality for several years. He is a baldy to boot! We have sold a percent of him to GENEX. They are moderate-framed bulls that keep getting thicker and deeper. His birth weights are light and we have now used him heavily on virgin heifers. I feel his sons can offer the same high quality and depth with outcross genetics for our repeat customers. It looks to me that he will be a top female sire as well. All of his daughters are deep, broody-made, and flawless in their skeletal makeup. MCC DAYLITE is an Angus bull we used on heifers. His sons came easily and have great length of body and performance. We also have an elite son by LEACHMAN CERTAINTY. He is a bull we used heavily last spring on heifers. We anticipate offering more of his sons in 2018. He is another bull that calved well with top performance. With the drop in the cattle market last summer and fall, we have carried over a nice group of fall bulls. They will be 18 to 20 months old and will cover bigger groups of cows. They have been developed slowly and are available for purchase at any time. Their data and pedigrees are available on our website. They are priced and ready to sell. All of the fall bulls are homozygous for both black and polled. Please watch our website for additional information and scan data. 2017 sale procedure In 2015 we moved to a bid off day for our sale to allow everyone equal opportunity to purchase the bull of their choice. We did have a few questions on the procedure, so I am going to try and explain it completely. You can view the bulls at any time prior to the sale date of February 15th. Please call ahead so I can assist you with the bulls. My cell number is 620-344-0233. Leave a message and I will call you as soon as possible if I am unavailable to take your call. You can leave a selection preference list with me, as well as a maximum bid price or prices for specific bulls. I guarantee that the bids we handle will be treated with respect, and that your purchases will be made at the lowest cost required to purchase a bull. I don’t remember spending a maximum bid yet, to purchase bulls for any customers. You can call and leave sight unseen purchase orders as well. I guarantee that sight unseen purchases will meet your expectation or you will receive a full refund. If you are not comfortable leaving a maximum bid, you can bid on the phone sale day. You must leave a phone number where you can be reached between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the 15th. Sale order will be made on the 14th based on interest levels on the specific bulls. Sale starting prices will be in the catalog and online as soon as the catalog is completed. If a bull only has one interested party, the bull will sell at the opening price. Any bulls not sold on sale day will be available on a first come basis at the opening price. Any bulls out on sale day due to injury or needing a semen recheck will be listed on the website as they become ready. You can leave interest notice on those bulls with me at any time. You will be notified when they become available. The past sales have broken down like this: about 50% of the bulls were bid off between 2 to 3 buyers and about 50% sold at the starting price to a single bidder.
