Cattlemen & Cattlewomen, It is with utmost excitement that we welcome your consideration to our 6th Annual Bull Sale. As expected, we have been working hard over the past twenty some months to assemble this offering of exciting Red Angus bulls, and we are truly thankful for the interest you have in our cattle and program. Over the last few years, we have been very fortunate, delivering bulls all over North America; from Canada to Mexico, Montana to Florida. The feedback has been positive and encouraging, and we can’t wait to get this year’s offering out and proving themselves as well. The genetics represented this year are among the breeds’ finest; some you’re undoubtedly familiar with, and some you’ve probably never heard of. Breed improvement is altogether our foremost objective. There are certain Red Angus breeders that are so evidently defined in the kind, pedigrees, and EPDs that make them, them. We certainly respect that. All too often though, you’ll find breeders that become inherently narrow-minded, chasing the certain trends or traits that they feel have the biggest impact on their own, personal bottom-line. However, we’re keeping an open mind to different lines of genetics, ultimately to breed the kind of Red Angus cattle that are the most problem-free, low-maintenance, and profitable for the commercial cow-calf producer. For more information on our long-term direction, take a minute to read the “About Us” section of our catalog. If we’re being honest with ourselves, the selection of purebred bulls around the United States is vast, overly saturated, and mind-boggling. Every publication, newspaper, or scroll through social media leaves you inundated with bulls for sale. With that recognized, it leaves us with the question, “Why buy our bulls?” Ultimately, you need a bull that is suited for your environment, and gets your cows settled. Fertility and libido are mandatory. Secondly, who desires to invest in a bull that breaks down structurally within the first year? Sadly, it happens more often than not, and we feel certain breeders almost enjoy the idea of preconditioning a customer to believe they need to come by a new bull every single year. With these two most basic criteria for bull selection identified, you are guaranteed to meet both here at Niobrara Red Angus. Check out, “Why Buy From Niobrara?” in the catalog to have a better understanding of why we feel our cattle can best benefit you. Red Angus cattle are our passion. We have challenged ourselves to breed and raise the most complete, profit-driving Red Angus cattle in the breed. Are EPDs solely how we improve our next calf crop? No. Are we aiming to disregard all of that, improving the cattle exclusively by what we see visually? No. Our goal is to focus on breed improvement by utilizing everything possible, while sticking to what we feel are the commercial cattlemen’s most basic requirements: fertility, longevity, and profitability. We wholeheartedly appreciate your consideration of the bulls we have on offer. Feel free to contact us at any time. We love talking about Red Angus cattle.

The Team
JEFF & TAMI KELLER, OWNERS of Niobrara Red Angus, grew up in Niobrara, Nebraska. In their years around home, they grew up on Tami’s family’s cattle ranch, Leader Angus Farm, helping to complete the day to day of ranch responsibilities. Years later, after college and law school and establishing residence in Lincoln, NE, the Keller’s knew they wanted a connection back to their roots; also wanting their three boys Sam, Jack and Ben to have a chance to be involved in agriculture. Thus, Niobrara Red Angus was established. Although they are not on-farm most business days, the effort and team they have developed, they feel is second to none.
JACOB BATHKE, RANCH MANAGER, resides and oversees Niobrara Red Angus each day. Born and raised in Niobrara, he is the fourth generation to graduate from Niobrara High. He manages and oversees the daily operations of the ranch, and is responsible for their wellbeing. He says he owes most of his cattle knowledge to Kent Snowdon, who got him started in the cattle industry about 15 years ago. Jacob graduated from Northeast Community College with an Associates Degree in Agronomy. He’s grateful for the opportunity to work for the Keller Family, and to be able to work with such high quality seedstock. He would also like to acknowledge and thank his brother Shane, and other friends and family that help him time to time throughout the year. MEG PENROD, OFFICE MANAGER, resides in Lincoln Nebraska with her husband Tanner, daughter Sloan, and their extra large sweet golden doodle Foster. Meg received her BFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she spent most of her time throwing pottery. She can often be found drawing, painting or creating some work of art in the middle of the night. She spent the last 12 years working in interior design but her love for people and animals is what drew her to work for Niobrara Red Angus. GARRETT KNEBEL, MARKETING MANAGER, resides in Bozeman, MT with his wife Katelyn. There they own and operate Storey Hereford Ranch & Harmony Hill, a progressive Hereford & Red Angus operation focused on seedstock for the commercial cow-calf operator. With a degree from Oklahoma State University, Garrett’s main responsibilities for Niobrara Red Angus include marketing, consulting, breeding, and seedstock selection. In his spare time, he travels the country visiting with fellow Red Angus breeders and judging livestock shows.

Why Buy a Bull from Niobrara Red Angus ?
THE MOST PROGRESSIVE GENETICS In developing our core to breed from, we have made it a priority to visit and visually appraise an alarming number of Red Angus breeders across the country. In those visits, we identified certain lines and kinds of Red Angus cattle that we felt check the most boxes; sticking to what we feel provide the most fertility, longevity, and profitability in the beef business. Feel confident in knowing that you have available in front of you, yearling bulls that are the direct progeny of some of the breed’s most elite seedstock in North America. VOLUME DISCOUNTS 3 - 5 Bulls, 5% Discount - We’ll take off 5% Purchase Price at settlement. 6 + Bulls, Make it a 10% Discount - We’ll take off 10% Purchase Price at settlement. BULL DEVELOPMENT Tired of fat, lazy bulls that were pushed to their structural limits in development? We are too! These bulls were developed at home, on the ranch in Niobrara, NE. Added fat in a bull’s scrotum only prolongs their ability to regulate temperature for proper semen production. Feel confident these bulls will be genuine in their condition and shape and ready to work! NEW THIS YEAR - INSURANCE/FIRST BREEDING SEASON GUARANTEE Please reference the Martin Trudeau Insurance insert, outlining the Livestock Insurance options available for purchase on sale day. All bulls will have passed a breeding soundness exam, prior to sale day. New This Year, we will offer to share the insurance premium to purchase Bull Mortality & ASD Infertility insurance through Martin Trudeau Insurance of Mitchell, SD. The seller will pay the first 5% of the purchase price of the insurance premium on whichever policy the buyer wishes to receive. A representative of Martin Trudeau will be available sale day. If the buyer declines this coverage, he/she assumes full risk for the bull. We would suggest that normal care still needs to be exercised toward these animals and particularly yearling bulls to maintain adequate body condition. DELIVERY ARRANGEMENTS Costs Figured per Mile from Niobrara, Nebraska. 0 – 200 Miles – Free Delivery 200 – 500 Miles - $250.00 per Head 500 + Miles - $500 + per Head All International Deliveries are FOB Niobrara Red Angus Delivery charges will be added to each invoice at check-out unless you plan to load out within 14 days of the sale. You are expected to meet the NIO truck driver at the central drop-off point as communicated by them. International purchases are sold FOB Niobrara Red Angus. UPDATED SUPPLEMENT INFORMATION Supplement sheets will be available on sale day and will include actual scrotal measurements, actual weights, and updated EPDs. All yearling bulls will be ultrasounded and updated carcass EPD information will be available. AND
Philosophy Vision
In the simplest of description, our long-term goal is to bridge the divide in the Red Angus breed between correctly structured “phenotype” cattle with a disadvantage in the availability of genetic data and information, with the typical, number-chasing U.S. Red Angus cow; genetic history and contemporaries of plenty, with a compromised foot structure that has simply been overlooked for far too many years. In our extensive travels, we have seen herds of all different shapes and sizes, priorities and unimportance’s, trends and age-old beliefs. Many, not all, of the cattle that appear to be the most elite in the Red Angus database, are in actuality some of the poorest footed, worst structured cattle in the breed that have compromised longevity. We are led to believe it’s because decisions have been made in a swivel chair, and not in the middle of their cowherd. Breeders that have mated cows based on the Planned Mating calculator on the Red Angus website have looked past the visual appraisals that HAVE to take place. Top 1% doesn’t mean guaranteed to breed for 5 years. More times than not, their feet are genetically debilitating and you find them shuffling in when the cow herd is gathered in the fall because their toes have grown crossed and they’re in pain. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we’ve found cattle that prove their longevity. Feet are not trimmed, cows live through their entire productive life and actually make you a greater return on that initial investment. BUT, if you were to look at their EPDs on paper, you may find yourself saying, “Why would I breed to this cow-killing, nanny-goat performing creature with the marbling of a Belgian Blue?” In reality, these cattle calve, perform, and grade equal to or even better than the data-focused cattle that clearly display a strong advantage in their genetic profile. Our thought is, why would I buy a bull perceived to be in the Top 1% for the Herdbuilder Index, when his toes are mal-shaped and I’m going to have to worry about him breeding enough cows to keep me in business?! In closing, our goal is the crossover of these distinct sectors of the breed. Our cattle may never be Top 1% for a certain trait, but if they prove to have longevity and sire calves that guarantee the buyer gets a solid return on his investment, then that’s when we know we are headed down the correct path. We are following that path now; identifying and utilizing certain bulls or cows that we know provide enough problem-free longevity and profitability for a solid ROI. However, it takes time; lots of time to identify those individuals. And it’s our goal here at Niobrara Red Angus to be able to offer that kind to you. “INDEXES & PERCENTILES SHIFT DRASTICALLY; DESPERATE AND BAFFLING. MONDAY YOU OWN THE BREED LEADER. FRIDAY, HE’S JUST A CALF.” Cattle producers sell their feeder and slaughter cattle based on what they actually weigh on a scale. When investing in seedstock, it is important to be provided with actual performance data rather than only computer generated projections that change weekly, can fluctuate dramatically and are only as relevant as the accuracy values behind them. EPDs are a selection tool but alone do not create great cattle; real breeding progress requires breeding beyond the numbers for real-world production traits. Selections and matings based on feet, udders, fertility and pounds; that has created consistency, progress, and lessened the cost of mistakes.

The RAAA Database may have identified his genetic potential to be among the breed’s best in weaning and yearling performance, proportionately adjusting up his BW EPD. But make no mistake, Reputation’s exceptional calving ease is Inherited, Proven, and Problem Free. This is as Curve-Bending a bull as I’ve ever witnessed. – Garrett Knebel
REPUTATION the most anticipated SIRE GROUP of 2023 Two years in, and I couldn’t possibly be more thankful and excited to be a partner with Overmiller Red Angus & Feddes/C-T on what I consider to be the most highly anticipated, and most widely appreciated Red Angus bull in recent years. Most know, our catalog or supplement sheet is folded up in our pocket when we start searching through an offering of bulls. I still have videos on my phone, the day 0094 came into view within his contemporaries. Unusually dark hided for a Red Angus bull, he was ripped up with a muscular outline, and a crest and presence that I associate with the most masculine, fertile kind. Upon closer study, his feet were truly immaculate. He reached off both ends with incredible athleticism, coming and going with an honest, opened-up width and density. As I turned to the paper to understand what I was looking at, I was elated that the bull read as a leader in his figures as well. A Red Rock son, known for calving ease, he also charted into the top percentiles for performance and growth. Balanced in his carcass figures, and then recognizing the immortal C-T Linsey 0964 was his grandmother, this was the bull I had been searching for all spring. Fast forward to the summer of 2022, I stopped into Kelly & Brent Overmiller’s to see how he had matured. I once again took a photo of how unbelievably good his feet had stayed and got even more excited about what we had found. Calving our bred heifers serviced by him, I got reports of phenomenal calving ease and a problem free, positive experience for the females. Jake has been extremely complimentary of the sire group all this past summer long, and once I was able to evaluate his sons this winter, I can confirm, this is truly a bull that checks all of the boxes. Semen has been kept exclusive between his owners, and only once were three units offered as a donation to the Bet on Red in Reno, Nevada, garnering $1,120.00 per unit. We will continue to keep C-T Reputation 0094 closed to semen sales for the time being, until our firms are content with the progeny retained in herd. Here in lies the first offering of his sons, and I’m confident we are witnessing the beginning of a bull that will have a longstanding impact on the Red Angus breed in its entirety.

As the bulls took their turns through the picture pen, this Reputation son out of a Profitbuilder first-calf heifer, hit me like a ton of bricks. Stunning to evaluate phenotypically, he is a stout, ripped up, long bodied, powerful rascal with a ton of presence. Extremely athletic and solid in his foot, he reads with tremendous longevity and heavy use. One of my favorites, this Reputation son is as big-middled, massive and three dimensional as any of his brothers on offer. Extremely sound and relaxed in his skeleton, this bull is built to last. Backed by a Darkhorse first calf heifer, we are extremely proud of our Darkhorse daughters in production. They’re arguably as versatile in their phenotype and genotype as anything we own, and always wean off big calves. With an Adjusted WW of 799 lbs., this was the heaviest Reputation son at weaning, and still hits the Top 10 Adj. YW bulls with 1,248 lbs. Top 1% Milk, Top 5% WW, Top 5% YW, this bull has the potential to produce incredible daughters that will entice you to keep every single one. A sleep-all-night heifer bull that still charts in the Top 10% for WW, YW, & REA, 2015 carries the look of a true calving ease bull. Sleek through his front end, yet still powerful and a herd bull look, the maternal side of his pedigree speaks to the problem free nature we see in this Reputation son; Cries for War is still to this day probably the safest heifer bull we’ve ever sampled.

The highest IMF Ratio of the entire offering at a 207! Here’s a bull I think will make a lot of folk’s lists. Where else do you find bulls this balanced in their traits? Calves at 75 lbs, makes a Top 10 WW Ratio in his contemporaries with a 105, Top 10% WW, Top 10% YW, Top 10 REA, and scans OFF THE CHARTS with a 207 IMF Ratio! This bull not only has the look of a true herd bull but is one that you’ll love even more when you’re calving his first progeny. 2044’s got a strong, strong mark in my catalog.

You’ve got to see him to believe him. If there was ever a bull I felt rivaled the look of U2 Dominion, it just might be this son of his backed by the explosive Dyna 89Y donor. NIO Palermo 2273 has been a ground-pounding Mack truck since the very early days. Honestly, I’ve never seen a Red Angus bull maintain this much mass, dimension, capacity, and muscle the whole way through. A great footed bull that’s still sound in his structure, NIO Palermo 2273 is the kind of bull that I’d imagine seeing in Argentina at their largest, most prestigious livestock show. All the actual data and performance with the lovely Canadian figures, here’s a Top 10 Adj. WW bull at 814 lbs., Top 10 Adj. YW bull at 1,349 lbs., and scans with a Top 10 REA Ratio of 110, this bull does all the things without any of the fancy percentiles.

NIO Sundance 2280 is as exciting of a future herd bull as we’ve ever offered at auction. This John Wick son out of the Dyna 89Y donor slaps you upside the head with his proud, herd-bull look. Incredibly good at the ground, he’s got John Wick’s presence and build with all of 89Y’s mass and power. A Top 10 Adj. WW of 793 lbs., a Top 10 Adj. YW of 1,322 lbs., and scans with an REA Ratio of 112, he matches the power and performance we see in his maternal brother we call Palermo. If you’re looking for a cow bull that will not only inject look into his heifer calves, but pack on the pounds and power into his fed offspring, definitely look up 2280 on sale day.

If you’re looking for a ripped-up, muscular, powerful, longbodied one with a herd-bull presence, find Lot 16 on sale day. Unfortunately, this past year, we lost the famous VF Lakota C302 donor cow. Simply put, she had produced some of the best daughters we had ever retained in herd. Her sons had topped past bull sales and are currently working in some of the most reputable Red Angus herds across the country. Again, in this year’s sale, we will offer four ET sons including some of the most exciting Black, Red Carrier bulls we’ve ever marketed, offered as Lot 63 & 64. This Entourage son has had “the look” since early summer, and he’s one powerful dude. Cresty, masculine, shapely and stout, he’s as rugged in his build and appearance as any bull in the sale. With a balanced set of carcass figures and added performance, here’s a curve-bending bull that could take any operation forward.
Two words. Hidee Ho. Arguably the most recognized cow in the breed hits it out of the park again with this full brother to one of 2022’s High Sellers, NIO Bad Medicine 1126, bringing $40,000 for Half Interest to Sunberry Valley & U2Q. A cow that literally just doesn’t miss, this mating by Resource has clicked every single time. A full sister to Lot 15 was also named the Grand Champion Red Angus Female at the 2022 NWSS. More recently, another full sister sold in the 2022 Flash & Function Sale, bringing $45,000. If you’re a believer in consistency within cow families, Hidee Ho 459D may just be the most consistent cow in the Niobrara program. Stout, ripped up, big middled, stunning through his front end, and still very sound at the ground, this future herd bull does it all. 13

One of my favorite bulls in the offering, here’s a red hided Blackbird 107X son, sired by Resource 137E. This bull knows he’s good and stands proud every time you find him. Enormous in his center body, he’s an extremely stout constructed, wide-bodied bull that moves exceptionally well for the amount of mass he carries. Blackbird 107X has been gone for quite a while now, but her influence on the Niobrara cow herd is everlasting. Her daughters continuously raise some of the biggest, stoutest calves we have to offer every year. Full disclosure, this bull is used to being the king of the pen and he was a little fast in the pen on picture day. That aside, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring him home because of the big impact I think this bull can make.

It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you live, or what your priorities are… you’ll want to take this bull home. NIO Mojave 2029 is an extremely unique animal and has been since Day 1. For the phenotype gurus out there, that love to evaluate cattle, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a Red Angus bull like this before. His mother, Six Mile Kassie 535F, is a standout Peak Dot Unanimous daughter that we selected in Six Mile’s Genetic Focus sale back in 2018. A phenomenal udder structure, great feet, and a massive, stout structured build that doesn’t take long to find in the pasture, 2029 gets his look honestly. His sire, U2 Nova 627F injected an immense amount of power, muscle, shape, length, and extended his front end with a killer look from the side. For a bull to be this ripped up, and still shaped as seamlessly as he is from his shoulder all the way back to his hip, is extremely hard to do. Flawless in his build with a solid, dark foot underneath of him, he moves effortlessly. On top of his impossible look, NIO Mojave 2029 had a WW Ratio of 118, with an Adj. WW of 856 lbs., a YW Ratio of 112, with an Adj. YW of 1313, and accordingly ranks Top 3% WW, and Top 10% YW. With a very conservative 87 lbs. at birth, this is an honest curve-bender in our program that we are thrilled to use back in herd. 15

We’ve loved our Nova calves over the years, and here’s another example of why. A stout constructed, muscular, long bodied bull that’s athletic on the move and smooth in his design. He ratios a 108 at Weaning, a 113 at a Year weighing in with an Adj. YW of 1,327 lbs. An ADG Ratio of 121, a WDA Ratio of 115, and on top of all the performance, this bull scans a 15.23 inch eye, with the highest REA Ratio in the sale of 122. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunities we would have liked to work with the SSS Jessie 261Z donor, but we were finally able to put in a few of her embryos two years ago, and really, really like the PTO sons and daughters we received out of that mating. 2264 is one of the youngest bulls in the sale, but absolutely ripped up with meat and muscle. Great footed, big ribbed, and athletic on the move, here’s an extremely complete performance option. An IMF Ratio of 123 and an REA Ratio of 105, his fed offspring will truly excel.

One Massive Red Hided Machine! As we work into a set of Bieber Deep End sons, these bulls have brought everything to the table that we’d hoped they would. NIO Deep End 2059 is a scale-crushing, high-capacity herd bull that has been packing on the pounds since early days. Huge backed, stout hipped, big boned, and still stretchy and extended for the amount of weight he carries, it doesn’t take very long to find this bull in the development yard. A Top 10 Adj. WW of 794 lbs., to Ratio 110. The 3rd Highest Adj. YW in the entire sale at 1,357 lbs., to Ratio 113. Top 10% ProS, GM, WW, YW, & REA. Stemming from the Tarmily 016A cow family, this bull is backed by one of the best donor cows we’ve worked with at Niobrara Red Angus. If you’re looking to add frame, power, performance, and mass into a set of feeder calves, 2059 will get the job done in No Time!

Our Darkhorse cattle are some of the best cattle in the Niobrara Red Angus program. He’s done so many things well for us from calving ease to stretchy, high growth sons, to daughters that we can’t get enough of. One of the best calving ease bulls in the sale with a -2.5 BW EPD, 2076 is a true spread bull that packs the pounds onto a big, stretchy frame with added stoutness and power. With a -3.0 BW, Darkhorse 2166 is a spread bull that’s also Top 1% Milk and Top 10% REA. A proud bull with lots of presence, he’s extra smooth in his design and sound at the ground. BIRTH WEIGHT AND CALVING EASE University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%. The female has 60-70% influence on birth weight of her calf. The bull has 30-40% influence on birth weight of his progeny. Pelvic measurement and angle as well as the shape of the calf, have 35-40% influence on calving ease. Length of gestation greatly affects birth weight. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation. Size and maturity of the cow influence calving ease. Most commercial producers do not take birth weights. Guessing is as inaccurate as driving with a broken speedometer – what is thought to be 55 mph may in fact be 65-70 mph, and what is thought to be 70-80 lbs, may actually be 80-90 lbs. Remember, if everything is relevant, increased growth, frame and performance will increase birth weight. A longer-bodied calf will weigh more. If a calf is expected to have genetics for growth, it will display this prior to birth as well as after. As a rule of thumb, it takes a calf weighing 85 lb. at birth to finish at 1,200-1,250 lbs. A cow should easily give birth to a calf weighing 8% of her own body weight. Thus, a 1,200 pound cow should give birth to a 96 lb. calf with ease. Continued selection for light birth weights will ultimately reduce the mature size and performance of your cattle.

With his first calf crop on the ground, H/H Adventure 0054 didn’t take long to prove he was a bull worth using. With semen bringing $680 a unit last fall, it’s off the market and not available for purchase. The presence, proud look, extra muscle shape and incredible foot shape are what we’ve come to expect from Adventure. This son backed by a standout Resource 137E daughter in the herd is quick to strike your attention. With a killer look and proud presence, he’s as neat in his lines and sound at the ground as any bull in the offering. This full brother to two past High Selling bulls is a standout John Wick son that proves why the VF Lakota C302 cow was such a treasure to our cow herd. Masculine, powerful, big ribbed, great footed and sound as can be, he’s as complete a bull as we have in the offering. NIO Greeley 0076 is doing an incredible job working for Short Grass Genetics in Kansas, siring heifer calves that helped win the Pen Show at the NWSS in Denver this spring. A stout, powerful, big outlined son of Encore and this time, an ET son by the foundation donor cow of the Niobrara Red Angus program, WCR Kuruba De 2085Z. When we speak to consistency, there literally isn’t a calf born from 2085Z that isn’t in the top group of our replacements or bull prospects. This Big Timber son has been a favorite of the Bathke Brothers all year long. Here’s a rugged, long bodied, heavy structured Big Timber son that will add the frame, stretch and scale into a set of feeder calves. With a BW Ratio of 89, he should also offer a problem free experience during calving. Big boned, awesome in his foot shape, and very sound at the ground, we’ve also recently entered his mother into our ET Program based on her consistent production record.

The first red grandson of SAV President 6847 to sell at Niobrara is offered here as Lot 52. A serious heifer bull candidate, this proud, stout made, big ribbed bull calved at 76 pounds to Ratio 91; further confirmed by his BW EPD of -3.3. If you haven’t heard, the reports on H/H Western 0080 are extremely impressive. With some of the best bull calves at those firms lucky enough to sample him, Western is a bull that will see heavy use well into the future. Lot 55 is absolutely ripped up with power and muscle, confirmed by his REA Ratio of 117. The Western calves are also offering calving ease across the board, and just explode with power from thereafter.

We start off the Fall Born bulls with a standout that’s been catching our attention from early days. This son of Red Eagle is an extremely stout made, big ribbed, dark red bull that is phenotypically as good as they get. Very sound and athletic on his feet and legs, he also displays a stout, masculine head shape with added masculinity through his crest. Huge topped, big hipped, he carries that width and power all the way to the ground. All that power and stoutness makes sense, as he’s a son from a young Firestorm x Baneberry daughter. After all of these years, the Baneberry daughters continue to knock it out of the park. 33

Another knockout, dark red son of Red Eagle lies here in Lot 59. Long bodied, extended, big middled and powerfully constructed, he’s got honest muscle shape about everywhere you look. Our Reckoning daughters are among the best cows in our herd, and his mother added her additional power into this fall bull as well. With a birthweight of 81 pounds, his BW Ratio indicates he offer as much calving ease as any in the fall born bulls. Scanning the biggest REA of his contemporaries, he’ll certainly add the power into a set of feeder calves. Let’s not forget, the added age these 18 month old bulls have will only help in the ‘settling cows’ department.

Another son of Township 17G that’s ready to work on a set of cows. Long bodied, neat and extended about his head and neck, lots of muscle shape and a big rib cage. 1246 is the product of a Full Sister in blood to KJL/CLZB Complete 7000E, one of the more sampled sire groups available for sale this spring in 2023. Loaded with power and performance, he’s a long bodied, muscular bull that’s rugged in his look and build. A few years ago, I set out to find a black angus bull that would truly elevate our programs forward. I stumbled upon the 2018 $200,000 High Selling Bull from the Conneally Angus program, Conneally Fortune 752L. A true outlier in terms of his performance and carcass merit, he offered an incredible genetic profile and appeared to be a very functional, muscular bull that was practical in his look. One of the most versatile donor cows Niobrara Red Angus has ever acquired is VF Lakota C302. Not only was her genetic profile atop the breed, but she was probably the most phenotypically impressive, fault free Red Angus female I had seen thus far with EPDs that placed her among the breed’s best. Fast forward a couple years, and here we sit with two full brothers that I personally feel will elevate the Red Angus breed to new heights. Their genetic profiles, coupled with the bulletproof cow family behind the C302 cow, make them as exciting as any Black, Red Carriers I’ve witnessed in recent time. Way up in the Top 1% of the breed, we’re Top 1% ProS, GM, WW, & YW. Top 2% REA, and Top 10% REA. What’s exciting is that these bulls performed phenotypically like they read on paper. With ratios at the top of this entire offering, the proof is there.

LD Capitalist 316 is among the most widely used black angus bulls in the entire world, and for good reason. He is absolutely loaded with muscle, has a true herd bull presence, and his daughters are some of the most in demand females across the country. We wanted a chance to infuse Capitalist into the Red side of the breed, and what better way to sample him than with the maternal force of WCR Kuruba De 2085Z behind him. There isn’t enough page space to go into everything this cow has produced, but to name a few are Prestige, Progressive, & countless other high selling bulls and females that have been produced within the Niobrara Red Angus program. This Capitalist son entered the picture pen and hit me hard. Wildly good looking up front, this bull puts together a captivating look from the side and is as sound structured and good moving as anything in the sale. Long bodied, bold in his body type, and smooth in his design, 2085Z did it again.

One of the first SAV America 8018 Black, Red Carriers to sell at auction, and here again, backed up by the immortal WCR Kuruba De 2085Z. This bull performed above and beyond our expectations and is an absolute stud to admire. He crushes the scales and the competition every time he crosses them. Huge bodied, as stout, opened-up and as powerful as any bull in the offering. He displays 2085Z’s structural quality and looks like a true herd bull in the making.

Another SAV America 8018 Black, Red Carrier, this time by the maternal powerhouse U2 Lass 465A. This bull is an absolute stallion. You talk about mass, dimension, capacity and power, this may be the most impressive bull from that standpoint as any in the sale. 465A is the most phenotypically stunning and elite Red Angus female I’ve ever been around; a large-scaled cow with immaculate foot shape, tons, and tons of dimension and yet still attractive and maternal in her lines. There is a tremendous opportunity here in these America sons to infuse SAV America 8018 into the red breed, backed by some of the most phenotypically correct cows the Red Angus breed has to offer.

Of all the Black, Red Carriers in the offering this year, this 113Z son may be the toughest to pick apart. SAV Raindance 6848 is a Charlo son that has made a massive impact on the black side of this breed. We’ve heard around the country that his daughters are truly productive, with incredible bags and big, stout calves at their sides. You would be one of the very first to start creating Red Angus from the Charlo, Raindance line of Schaff genetics. U2 Beauty 113Z is the breed’s most recognized female, with progeny across all of North and Central America. She’s admired for her power, mass, impeccable foot shape, and breed-leading udder design. Go find this rascal on sale day. Once again, these Black, Red Carriers are truly a sight to see this year. 39

Here in lies my favorite U2Q President 60H son in this year’s offering. He entered the pen on picture day, and the more I studied him, the more I liked him. He’s got a head-spinning look from the side, is as wide and ripped up from front to back as any bull in the sale, has his dad’s stunning Angus head, and moves effortlessly. A more moderate framed bull than some of the other blacks on offer, that comes with additional calving ease as he calved at 79 lbs. Backed by a Powerhouse x 2085Z daughter on the bottom side, you know the maternal power is going to be there.

You talk about a BRICK! You can’t possibly make a bull any stouter or wider. This Black, Red Carrier, Resource 137E son is a direct son of Blackbird 107X, one of the foundation donor cows of the Niobrara Red Angus herd. Masculine, cresty, huge topped, and massive middled, this bull checks a lot of boxes.

A Black, Red Carrier Reputation son from a stunning John Wick x Blackbird 107X first-calf heifer. You talk about wanting to add some stretch and frame into a set of feeder calves, and this bull will do it. Long bodied, really extended, smooth through his front end, I’d expect some additional calving ease from the Reputation side of things. A pedigree that is absolutely stacked with the best genetics the Niobrara Red Angus program has to offer.
