DIRECTIONS Welcome to Blacktop Farms 2023 Paving the Way Sale. The past year was filled with many challenges. From serious drought to the extreme snow fall we received after the new year, God has blessed us with moisture. Maybe not the kind we wanted, but maybe just what we needed.

The cattle industry can certainly be challenging, and we are producing bulls to help you meet those ranch goals.

We spend many hours researching information and collecting data to create this set of bulls.

The time we have spent utilizing all the tools available in the beef industry, will give you greater accuracy in their progeny. The combination of EPD’s and phenotype we are offering, will improve your herd at a friendly price. We have been artificially inseminating every female for nearly 30 years. Good reliable genetics!

Please feel free to stop by anytime to view the bulls and ask questions. We hope most of the snow will be pushed or melted by sale day! Please mark February 17 off on your calendar and plan to attend in person or bid online using Livestock Link. We look forward to seeing you.

PLEASE NOTE

All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. Owners assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for accidents or loss of property that may occur.

GUARANTEE AND HEALTH

All bulls will pass a semen test and will be guaranteed breeding sound for the first breeding season. Animal becomes buyers risk day of sale. We strongly encourage you to purchase mortality insurance. Blacktop Farms is not liable for the death of an animal. Insurance will be available sale day. We do not cover death loss or leg fractures. If breeding troubles are reported by September 1, 2023, the bull may then be returned to breeder in good condition. A replacement bull or credit on next year’s sale will be offered.

- Bulls will be freeze branded and vaccinated with Bovishield 5 VL5, Clostridium, Pinkeye and Footrot.

- All bulls tested BVD negative.

DELIVERY AND POSSESSION

Free delivery up to 200 miles. Bulls will be grouped together for full loads. Delivery will start early March. Bulls kept beyond arranged delivery date will have a $3 per day boarding fee.

Blacktop Farms will keep 1/3 revenue sharing interest in all bulls.

Buyer has 100% possession.

Residual Average Daily Gain (RADG), feed efficiency expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed.

Docility (DOC), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility in a sire’s offspring compared to another sire.

Claw Set (Claw), is expressed in units of claw-set score. A lower EPD is more favorable, indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal claw set, which is toes that are symmetrical, even and appropriately spaced.

ANGLE

Foot Angle (Angle), is expressed in units of foot-angle score. A lower EPD is more favorable, indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal foot angle, which is a 45-degree angle at the pastern joint with appropriate toe length and heel depth.
