Welcome to the 2026 Prairie Hills Gelbvieh Annual Production Sale, and thank you for your interest in our program. Looking back on the past year, it’s hard to remember a time when North Dakota weather tested both cattle and cattlemen more. From dry stretches to sudden moisture, heat to cold, dust to snow, 2025 delivered extremes in every direction.
And yet, the cattle did what good cattle are supposed to do.
Despite the challenges, our cow herd maintained strong breed-up and conception rates, once again proving the value of functional, adaptable genetics. That kind of resilience doesn’t happen by accident. It is the result of disciplined selection with a long-term focus on fertility, maternal efficiency, and longevity.
The outlook for the cattle business remains very encouraging. Markets continue to reward quality cattle, and optimism has returned to the cow-calf sector. At the same time, rising input costs make efficiency more important than ever. That is why we place such a strong emphasis on the maternal side of the pedigree. The bulls you buy in 2026 will shape your cow herd for the next decade. Investing in genetics that produce fertile, productive, and durable females is one of the most reliable decisions you can make, regardless of weather or market cycles.
This year’s offering features sons of our proven returning sires RWG Jealous, LVL Frontrunner, and PHG Eminence. In addition, a number of new sires have been added to expand genetic selection and continue pushing our program forward. We are also excited to offer our largest set of Balancer bulls to date, giving commercial cattlemen added flexibility and consistency in crossbreeding systems. We are extremely proud of the depth and uniformity of this year’s offering and believe it is the strongest set of bulls we have ever presented. Our goal remains to provide you with genetics that not only make you money, but bulls you’ll be proud to have walking your pasture.

The bulls are developed using the Hubbard BluePrint® nutrition program from conception through sale day. They are grown on a forage-based ration with a target gain of 3 to 3.5 pounds per day, Galen and Marcia Sickler Family 10190 22nd Street SW Gladstone, ND 58630
allowing them to express growth and performance while staying fresh and structurally sound. Given the wide range of weather conditions this fall and winter, we are very pleased with how these bulls have performed and matured.
Due to the extreme temperature fluctuations this fall and winter, some bulls show evidence of rubbing or ringworm. We believe in complete transparency and present the cattle exactly as they are. Sale photos have not been touched up or doctored in any way. These bulls have been developed, photographed, and evaluated under real conditions, and we stand firmly behind their soundness, health, and long-term performance. We are again pleased to welcome two guest consignors to the sale - Shawn Kuhnhenn and Kayla Brew. Their bulls have been managed alongside the Prairie Hills bulls since weaning, on the same health and nutrition program, and sell with the same guarantee.
The sale will once again be held at the renovated sale facility at Klint & Maralee’s. All cattle will sell by video, with bulls available for viewing just outside the facility. Sale videos and supplemental information will be available at www.prairiehillsgelbvieh.com approximately two weeks prior to the sale. The sale will be broadcast live on DVAuction.com, with phone bidding available by arrangement.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support and confidence in our program. Please feel free to stop by anytime to view the cattle, and don’t hesitate to call if you have questions. We look forward to visiting with you and seeing you on sale day.

Every year it’s a challenge to figure out who is going to be Lot 1. I think our decision was made for us around July of this summer. To say that this guy has been a standout would be an understatement. An absolute tank of a bull, he’s had the herd bull look since he was about 4 months old. Truthfully we were hoping for a heifer when we did this mating to Jealous, but we’re not going to turn this guy away either! Considering this is only the 2nd bull calf his powerhouse donor dam has ever had, it’s only fair that he’s probably the best. Let’s chat about mom - a 6 time Dam of Merit, and a weaning ratio of 110 over her 8 calves. We were able to flush her a handful of times last year, so we keep this lineage running. She’s also the grandmother of the powerful new PHG Firefly J11 donor that is making quite the splash for Cranview Gelbvieh. Check out the stats on this guy - one gulp of water away from 1,000 pounds at weaning, and performance EPDs that put him in the top 10% of the breed, including a breed leading 10% marbling. Performance, Consistency, Predictability - three of the most profitable traits when you’re building a cow herd. He’s Lot 1 for a reason, make sure you find him on sale day! One of our absolute favorite calves all summer, we had strongly considered retaining Notorious as a replacement for his sire. Unfortunately his DNA came back as hetero polled, so instead he’s up for offer. The pure length, top, and mass this bull displays is impressive. Coupled with a super productive Dam of Merit mama who’s posting a 104 ratio over 6 calves - you’ve got quite the genetic package! Whether you’re selling calves by the pound, retaining heifers, or looking to broaden your gene pool - be sure to look up Lot 2. He’ll be in the front pen and easy to find!

If you’re wondering how much we thought of Jealous, just look at the shear number of Dam of Merit cows that were in his breeding pasture! Here’s another 2 time Dam of Merit that hit a home run with her calf. Coming from PHG Legacy, the maternal power here shouldn’t come as a surprise. He’s quickly separating himself for the fleshing ability and production of his daughters. Take a look at the BW to WW spread on this guy - 70 at birth to 801 at weaning! That puts him in the top 10% for his BW EPD, while still having enough middle to sire eye-catching calves.

His dam comes from the esteemed Kicking Horse herd in Montana and was our pick of the bred heifers offered at the 2024 ND Golden Rule sale. She’s quickly proving her worth and is well on her way to becoming a Dam of Merit. The look and depth Newark N77 shows is no mistake as he carries a double dose of the Kitty’s Dream cow - the driving force behind us buying Jealous. Couple his depth and thickness with her length and power. The result is this stud of a calf that sets himself apart in the pen. While he’s a little larger framed for a Jealous son, he certainly has his dams length and clean front, while having the top and depth from both of his parents. Lot 6 was the first bull that Emerson and Maralee identified this spring during calving. I think he was 2 weeks old when they came in the house and said he was a head turner. The good ones are good from birth! This guy just keeps getting better as he gets olderincredibly deep and soggy made, but wide enough to set your beer on. His dam should hit Dam of Merit next year, further driving home the power in this guy. He’s got all the pieces to become the Nucleus of your breeding program!

The dam of Lot 7 comes from the Danell Diamond 6 dispersion sale that was held in the fall of 2024. Tracing back to Don’s treasured Josephine female, she was an easy decision to bring home. Josephine is the dam of the PayPal bull, who is the sire of our Itasca bull, so most of the guess work was already done. The All American calf she was carrying just continues the legacy of high quality herd bulls from this family. 75 pounds at birth, 801 at weaning, and EPDs that are the perfect blend of calving ease, performance, and carcass traits - in a homo black & polled package!

A bull that will truly live up to his name - PHG New Standard is a bull that we expect to set a new standard in purebred black genetics! His dam was the $18k high seller from the 2025 Golden Rule sale. Sired by PHG Just Do It, we added this powerful black female as our newest potential donor female. Her All American sired calf continues to check every box as he develops. 66 pounds at birth, to an explosive 844 pounds at weaning! He hasn’t slowed down since weaning, gaining an impressive 4.81 ADG since. Take a look at his genomic profile and you’ll see top 15% or better for nearly every trait, including Marbling and FPI numbers that are in the top 1% of the breed! We have considered keeping this guy for our own use, but with JDI and Frontrunner in his pedigree his usage would be limited. Talk about opportunity! SELLING FULL POSSESSION & 1/2 SEMEN INTEREST.

We found Lincoln in the stalls at Agribition and were instantly impressed with the amount of thickness, power, and natural depth he exhibited. After he was selected as calf champion, the decision had been made that he needed to walk the pastures at PHG. We’ve been nothing but impressed with this first group of calves. It helps when you breed him to cows like J24 and stack him on top of Gunner and Miss Impressed G71 (dam of last years high selling bull). If you’ve been looking for a red outcross sire that combines performance with a proven pedigree, and EPDs that keep you in the top 25%, you need to make sure and find Lot 9 on sale day!

Calves from PHG J113 are becoming staples in the lead off pen of red bulls. Out of the 3 calves she’s produced, this is the 3rd to make the front pen - talk about a track record! She’s destined to make Dam of Merit status next year! This guy has been one to watch all summer, in fact after seeing him at 2 months of age we made the decision to breed mama back the same way to see if we could do it again. When you consider the impact a sire has on your herd for the next 10 years, this is the kind of bull you want to add to help write your Next Chapter!

Lot 11 comes to us from Kylee Sickler and her former show heifer Princess Anna. I told Kylee early this spring that she had something special in Neptune. A calf with just the right amount of eye appeal, while still having the performance to pay the bills. When we purchased Lincoln, I was looking for a replacement for Exact Combination - to stack these two pedigrees is a home run.
Where do we start on this stud? His dam is our lead donor - CRAN Faye F822 - otherwise known as the dam of the $31k PHG Hamilton H10. Faye is currently running a 104 weaning ratio over 10 calves. Emerson selected her natural calf as his show heifer this year, and a full sister to Lot 12 is a standout in the replacement pen. Gunner needs little introduction at this point, becoming one of the leading red sires in the breed to make maternal oriented females that still have the necessary carcass traits. Now take a look at this guy - Wow! Deep, Long, Wide, and standing on excellent substance of bone - he’s quite the specimen. I truly feel like Nodak is a bull that’s going to make a mark on the Gelbvieh breed. I think you’ll agree when you see him on sale day! SELLING FULL POSSESSION & 1/2 SEMEN INTEREST

INSTINCT
If a bull is only as good as the cow standing behind him, this guy must be a superstar. On the advice of Jay Elfeldt, we purchased B290 from Chimney Butte as a potential donor female. Her first calf made the picture pen in last years sale, and her second calf has done the same! She’s carrying a heifer calf this year, so hopefully we can expand the cow line and do some flush work on her. 9 calves for a 106 weaning ratio is impressive in a 12 year old female! When you take a look at Lot 14, you’ll see why his Dam of Merit mama has us so impressed. Smooth made, yet deep middled with a fantastic hip on him - he’s made the way you want a bull to look. Add in that mama has a near perfect udder at 12 years and you’ve got a bull with all the tools in the toolbox!
PHG Neutrino N81
Rounding out the Gunner sire group is lot 15 - PHG Neutrino N81. The breeding on this guy is a little different from his brothers. We purchased Secretariat for use on heifers, but he got hurt midway through his second breeding season, so his daughters are very limited, but very good! Easy fleshing, fantastic udders, and puppy dog dispositions - they’re the perfect mating with Gunner. Gunner himself got injured in pasture last summer, so these will be his last natural calves. If you haven’t scored one for yourself, don’t miss your chance!

Chest floor, middle mass, and a big ol butt to top it off, while still being in the top 20% for CE and BW! His dam came from Martin’s Golden Acres in Kansas as Kylee’s Balancer show heifer. Last year her Frontrunner sired calf was one of our top selling black bulls, and she’s back with a full brother that might be even better. As you go through this catalog, you’ll hear a lot of talk about different cow families and sire groups that have made their impact on our operation over the years. One of those sire groups is the RWG Yikes group. Looking back, the influence Yikes left on our herd is becoming more evident. Year after year the top end bulls almost always trace back to Yikes somewhere on the cow side. Lot 17 is no different - mama is a direct daughter of Yikes, and is a 3 time Dam of Merit. Lot 18 is the youngest Frontrunner son in the offering, but he’s been keeping right up with his brothers. What this guy gives up in age, he makes up for in length and correctness. He’s also one of the most curious bulls in the pen, always quick to come over and check you out. A 103 weaning ratio at 834 pounds is a tremendous effort from this first calver!
Nightfall N107 has the distinction of being the maternal brother to PHG Maximus M80 - Lot 6 in our 2025 sale. We pulled Max from the sale and retained him for our own use, with his first calves arriving any day. Lot 19 reminds me an awful lot of his brother, and the qualities that made him so popular. Moderate in his stature, while still being soft middled and wide topped. He has a lot of the qualities that are getting harder to find in high percentage cattle. Paycheck adds in the maternal infusion that makes this guy a true multi-purpose sire.

Check out the spread on this guy - 79 at birth to 829 at weaning. It shouldn’t be surprising though when you stack a bull like Frontrunner on top of one of the first Just Do It daughters. What a dynamite combination here!

Sometimes the stars align and things come together the way you had planned. We AI bred a very limited number of cows to Troubadour, one of them being PHG C21 - better known as the dam of PHG John Wayne J32. Not only did she stick, she gave us a bull calf that’s really really cool! In what could be the perfect combination of performance with style, Lot 21 has a great front 1/3 that blends seamlessly into an expressive rib and quarter. If you’re looking for a red purebred that’s truly unique, I suggest you track down Lot 21 on sale day!

Nashua leads off another new sire group for us. We purchased DC from Post Rock in 2024 as a red calving ease option, while still having the EPD strength to stay inside the guard rails. His first calves averaged 77 pounds at birth and we didn’t have to assist anyone. They then averaged 759 at weaning. This guy is the overachiever of the batch, posting a staggering 896 pound weaning weight off of his first calving John Wayne dam, and he’s been gaining 4.68 pounds on test since then! Top 5% for BW and CE with that kind of performance, that’s big time!

I hardly ever screw up (just ask Maralee), but the LAZY 344L bull might be my first. We purchased 344L, also known as Lloyd, from Cory & Sam Voss to use on the kids show heifers. When Gunner got hurt 2 weeks into breeding season, Lloyd got called up to the Big Leagues and covered his cows. I wasn’t blown away by the calves this spring, so we found Lloyd a new home. Fast forward to today and the most talked about bull in the red pen is a Lloyd son. Lot 25’s dam is a daughter of the KHR 52C bull. When toured through the KHR herd in 2023, his was the sire group that stood out to me as a female maker. If you’re serious about red outcross genetics and expanding the Gelbvieh gene pool, I’d suggest taking a long hard look at this guy! SELLING FULL POSSESSION & 1/2 SEMEN INTEREST.
PHG Northway N02
Lot 26 is the second of two Lloyd sons in this years sale. His dam is a direct daughter of our Faye donor, and was a heifer that the kids had in the show pen, so she got exposed early. 65 pounds at birth is exactly what we were shooting for from Lloyd. Take a look at the effort this hard working Gunner daughter did on Lot 27! She simply kicked it up to the Next Gear! 85 pounds at birth, up to a scale crushing 877 weaning weight. Add on his WW & YW numbers in the top 20%, and Scrotal, CW, Marbling, $Gain, MWT, and FPI numbers that are all in the top 10% or better. With a 60 day ADG of 5.52, this guy screams Beef Bull!

Lot 28 comes from Emerson Sickler, tracing back to the first female we purchased for him in 2015 - PHG B24. He’s been selectively mating this cow line to try and make a red heifer for years, but keeps getting black calves. Ironically he cracked the code with Lot 28 when he bred two black parents and made a red bull. B24 was a Dam of Merit four times, and a Dam of Distinction once. I like the potential in this calf with Eminence stacked on Yikes and EC.
Lot 29 comes from the Kuhnhenn Ranch, our embryo cooperator herd. Shawn purchased a couple bred females from our female sale in 2024 and this guy was one of the resulting calves. When Shawn asked if he could put him in our sale, I said “Absolutely!”. As cool as this calf is physically, my favorite part is seeing the process go full circle, and seeing our customers have success with their purchases. The dam of Lot 29 is from the same cow family as lot 23, and you can certainly see the resemblance. A little more moderate, squarer made, and deeper bodied than his buddies - he’ll get the job done!
The last Eminence son on offer this year comes from an outcross KHR cow that has done a great job on her first calf, coming in with a 104 ratio for an 837 weaning weight. His dam is a grand daughter of the great 52C bull from Kicking Horse that we were so impressed with. Maternal from one side, but with the performance from Eminence on the top.

Lot 31 comes from a 4 time Dam of Merit female that lands one in the top end every year - just check out her weaning ratio of 6 calves for a 104. We calved out the first JW females last spring and the udder quality they possess is incredible. Sort through the catalog and you’ll find quite a few bulls that are backed by JW females. This guy is one of the first sons of our new sire PHG Game On L48. We liked Game On when he was a calf for his moderate size and the depth and thickness he had. N102 is exactly what I envisioned his calves would look like - stout, thick, and easy fleshing. 80 pounds at birth, a huge 879 pounds at weaning, and he’s pounding down the scales with a 5.24 ADG over feed test. Watching these two brothers develop in the same pen has been a fun project the last three months. As they get older there are starting to be small differences that are showing up. Lot 47 seems to be stretching out while 44 is getting wider. This guy is winning the gain contest with a 4.80 ADG, so I’m guessing by sale day they were be incredibly close. These will be the third set of Stock Fund calves we’ve had over the years, and they continue to impress us. As a sire group they are deep made, loose hided, and just flat perform when they go on feed. Take lot 48 for example, this guy is as deep as you can make one, while still being structurally correct, smooth, and free moving. Genotypically he’s in the top 15% or better for the traits that payWW, YW, HP, CW, FPI & TPI!
In a business with slim margins, it’s important to do everything you can to improve the odds and increase your spread. That goes for your first calvers in particular! Those first calves don’t need to be throw aways for the sake of calving ease. Bulls like Lot 49 give you the best of both - low BW, while still having some grow to them. In today’s market, an increase of 50 pounds on those first calves at weaning is almost $200 per calf in your pocket! There’s your Next Margin!
Lot 50 might be coming on as strong as any bull since weaning. This guy has really started to set himself apart from the pack over the last 60 days, as evidenced by his 4.84 ADG while on test! His dam is destined to be a Dam of Merit next year with a 102 ratio on her first 3 calves and a 362 day calving interval. As good as he looks in person, he’s equally good on paper - Top 10% or better for WW, YW, TM, CW, REA, and FPI!

For the last 6 months I was convinced this guy was a Jealous son, and I was pumped to get a purebred that was this cool fronted and deep. Imagine my surprise when DNA confirmed that his dam stuck AI and he was a Stock Fund instead! Cool looks, deep made, and CE and performance to burn, what a combo! The dam solid is pretty solid here as well, in fact K108 is a sister to the Lot 40 bull, so good looks run in the family. This is a great option for those larger heifers or cows. Top 3% for CED, top 20% or better for BW, CEM, HP, Stayability, Marbling, $Gain, FPI, & TPI.

Lot 52 comes from our friend Kayla Brew. Kayla purchased Billy’s mom out of our female sale as a bred heifer in 2021. She told me this fall that she had a rock star Balancer calf out of her, and when he came over and crossed the scale at 850 pounds off the cow, it was a pretty easy decision to put him on feed here! With a relatively outcross pedigree, a 75 pound BW, and a 947 adjusted weaning weight - Billy is a great option for heifers or cows.
No Filter is one of the first calves we’ve seen from a Frontrunner daughter. This summer his dam was one that caught quite a few eyes - while she’s moderate and typey, she also is big middled and has a fabulous udder on her - exactly what we like in our first calvers! The Jaw Dropper calves always come easy, so you’ve got a double dose of calving ease with this guy as well!

Another son of the calving ease specialist Jaw Dropper. These will be his last natural sons as he was retired this spring. As easy calving as Jaw Dropper was, it’s exciting to see his son has even better genomic numbers for calving ease - top 4% for CE and top 10% for BW! Even more impressive when you look at his 79 pound BW and 833 WW!

One of my absolute favorite red calves this year. This guy should have been pictured, but he just couldn’t figure out how to stand properly. This is exactly what we were imagining when we made the decision to utilize Legendary in our program - moderate frame, incredibly deep, and as thick as you can make them. Sadly we lost Legendary after his first breeding season with limited semen in the tank. 66 pounds at birth, 803 at weaning, and looks and pedigree to burn - what a combination!
PHG Notable N115
One of the most influential females in our program is PHG Betty B57 - the dam of PHG Just Do It J120. Betty is also the grand dam of Legendary. Betty’s dam Y105 shows up in the top and bottom of this guy, which also means a double dose of DCH Tye T266 - one of the best female makers produced at Chimney Butte Ranch. If you’re retaining females, I’d be sure to look this guy up. 77 at birth and 870 at weaning - he’s a dudE!
I never anticipated that Legendary would have as much calving ease as he does, in fact his first calves averaged only 73 pounds at birth. I bred him to D25 in the hopes of getting another daughter from his Yikes sired dam. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but those Yikes females are pretty darn good! Moderate, deep and beefy, this guy is exactly what we’d expect. Top 2% for CE, and top 4% for BW PHG Namesake N96 - July 2025

What a bull to lead off the Red Angus offering! This will be our third year using Propulsion in our AI program on the reds, and they may be two of the best Propulsion calves yet. Lot 59 is the definition of a beef bull - thick, deep, and chalk full of muscle - all while being clean fronted with an exceptional skull shape. As pretty fronted and deep ribbed as this guy is, just imagine what the daughters will look like!

Nitrous 541N is the second of the two Propulsion sons this year, and while he may not have the pure power that lot 59 does, this guy may win the eye appeal contest. Everyone seems to gravitate towards this bull for his smoothness, dark red color, and correctness. His dam is a high power female that always turns a head out in the pasture, coming from some of the first Red Angus genetics that we brought into the operation. Proven genetics with a timeless look!

The next 5 bulls come to us from Shawn Kuhnhenn and Kuhnhenn Ranch. These bulls have really blossomed since they came in at weaning. Lots of outcross breeding here for Red Angus breeders. Some old school breeding here, tracing back to the Messmer program on the top and bottom of the pedigree. As a group they’re posting a 4.26 ADG.

I guarantee you’ll find this guy come sale day - he’s a rip! He’s been the stand-out of the Kuhnhenn bulls since they arrived, and frankly he turns plenty of heads in whatever pen he’s in. Great through his front 1/3, tied into a big middle, with a great quarter and leg on him. There’s no signs of him slowing down either, packing it on at 4.88 pounds per day!

The last bull in the offering, but no slouch - he’s been pounding it down at 4.23 per day since weaning. With a pedigree combining Messmer breeding with maternal greats like Crowfoot Moonshine, he’s got a legacy pedigree full of potential.
