Winter 2016 Newsletter

Fellow Angus Producers, My name is Darrell Tunstill. I am your current Arkansas Angus Association President. I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! 2015 was definitely a good year to us. We were blessed with plenty of rain, a mild winter, and calf prices rose to an all time high for most of the year. The cattle market took a small drop in prices during November and December, but 2016 has shown a slight rise for January. This past November, myself, along with other Arkansas Angus breeders, had the opportunity to attend the 2015 American Angus Association Convention and Trade Show, held in Overland Park, KS. This year’s convention had over 2,000 attendees. If you have never attended the convention before, I highly encourage you to do so. I found the workshops to be highly informative and the trade show was spectacular. Whether you are new to the Angus breed, or have been in the business for years, the workshops provide great information to help you better your Angus operation. I have been an Angus breeder my entire life, but I feel you can never learn enough. As technology continues to improve, so must we. This is why we must take advantage of such helpful opportunities. The convention trade show was also a huge attraction. There were many booths set up to inform cattle producers of the latest agricultural resources. We also got the chance to meet and visit with many cattlemen and fellow Angus breeders. The American Angus Auxiliary had their booth set up, along with their annual meeting, where many cattlewomen gathered to be informed of all that is happening with the auxiliary. There is plenty to do for everyone that attends the convention. This year, the American Angus Association introduced a new CEO, and elected a new Board of Directors. For more information regarding convention coverage you can look online at www.angus.org. I would like to encourage all of you to join us for our Annual Meeting this February. We will be discussing future goals for the 2016-2017 year and electing our officers and Board of Directors. The meeting will be held on February 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Little Rock, AR at the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association. Drinks and refreshments will be provided, along with door prizes. My goal, as President, is to build our membership and association strong again. The saying, “You must walk before you can run,” is an old phrase, but is still true today. We, as members, have many goals to rebuild our association. It takes time, dedication, and members that are willing to put forward their support. As your President, I encourage you to attend our meeting, bring forth your ideas, and support each other as Angus breeders. I look forward to seeing you all there. Sincerely,
