Fellow Cattlemen, We would like to take the opportunity to invite you to the third annual “Predictable Genetics, Proven Performance” Bull and Female sale. It is with great pride that we bring a larger and deeper set of bulls and a solid set of replacement females for your inspection. It is no secret that these are trying times in the beef industry with inputs at record prices and resources at a premium. Now is the time for you to evaluate your genetics, select wisely, and be ready to sit in the driver’s seat, as the future suggests it will be a seller’s market. We feel very confident Shorthorn genetics are some of the best investment dollars to be spent in the cattle industry in terms of efficiency, convenience, and performance traits.

As you look through the offering, we feel you will notice that a balance of performance and convenience traits are the cornerstone of our operation. One thing noticed is the birthweights of the spring bulls may be higher than their EPDs would suggest. Our feeding system has changed with limited feed resources, the use of lower quality forages and distiller’s byproduct in the calving pastures made for heavier calves. To this, we suggest to trust in the CE, BW, and $CE EPD values, as they will tell you the whole story and we are extremely confident in the accuracy of these numbers.

Once the bulls got through the spring, they hit the western Kansas short grass with no creep or supplement and were nothing short of amazing as they weaned as the heaviest set ever. All bulls have been developed on a diet high in roughage and energy with plenty of exercise and are ready to go to work in any environment. The spring yearlings will be ultrasounded by sale day. Please check our website for updates. The heifers have been handled at a little slower pace and will be CHV’d, pelvic measured, and ultrasounded.

Many of the customers from the previous sales have commented on the great deal of transparency that the “Cowboy Auction” provides. We feel confident that this format is the most straight forward and low key way to put on an auction. Cowboy Auction Procedure The bid-off will start at 1:00 PM CST, March 2. Bulls will have a starting bid of $2,200 and heifers will begin at $1,400. At the time of the bid-off, each individual lot will be announced and all who wish to bid on that lot will be asked to raise their bidder number. Each bidder will be “in” until he chooses to step out and withdraw.

Each $100 increment will be announced, and the bidders will be given time to consider whether they are “in” or “out,” before the next increment is announced. When only one bidder remains, they will have “won” that lot.

If you are unable to attend or for advanced bidding, contact any of the listed phone numbers to setup bidding by proxy.

Delivery

From Great Bend, Ks: Go 10 miles west on Hwy 56/156 to SW 90 Ave. Turn south and go 1 ¾ miles and turn right on SW 70 Rd. Head west 1/8 mile.

All lots picked up on sale day will receive a discount of $50/lot. All lots not taken sale day will be kept free until April 1, 2013. Delivery can be arranged and will be made at the most reasonable cost.

From Hwy 56/156 at west edge of Pawnee Rock: 2 3/8 miles east on SW 70Rd.

Breeding Guarantee

Semen and Breeding Soundness Exams

All bulls are guaranteed for the first breeding season, as defined by the first 90 days following turnout. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided or if the buyer prefers, credit towards one bull will be given in the following sale, less salvage value of the injured bull. All injured bulls must be diagnosed and documented by a veterinarian. Please notify us as soon as possible should injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold for salvage. All claims must be made by September 1, 2013.

All of the older bulls will be semen checked and Breeding Soundness Exam performed by sale day.

The Spring yearlings will be checked by delivery date provided they are at least 12 months old.

Insurance You may purchase insurance on the day of the sale.

If insurance is not purchased, bulls will be at the buyer’s risk.

Terms and Conditions

Genetic Testing

Terms of the sale are cash or check. Payment must be made to the clerk immediately following the sale and before the cattle are removed from the sale facility. Purchasers or their representatives must sign the bill of sale prior to the leaving the sale site.

Average Breed EPDs

All lots will be genetically tested for the TH by Pfizer and will sell as defect free unless noted.

Liability Each bull will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the sellers for a reasonable amount of time. Neither the owners, employees, nor any other affiliated personnel can be responsible for any accidents, but they will make every effort to provide for the safety and comfort of those attending.
