FELLOW CATTLEMEN – Thank you for taking the time to evaluate our cattle. We are very excited to bring you what we feel is the best set of genetics ever produced at Henke Angus. We believe in cattle that can do it all. Starting at the top with high docility and maternal stayability. Soundness and functionality also rank very high. We want bulls that are free moving and can travel well over a large area.

As you will see in the catalog these bulls rank high in calving ease, growth, and end product merit. This is a well rounded group that can fit any need.

While 2020 had its challenges, we were fortunate to welcome our fourth child. Our sweet little girl, Gabrielle JoAnna, joined us on August 12th. She already has her three older brothers wrapped around her finger and maybe has even softened me up a bit. As for the three boys, Colin and Byron keep us busy playing sports, showing calves, and have become excellent help on the farm. Bennett keeps us on our toes and entertained. He loves to check cows whenever he has the opportunity.

I’d like to thank everyone who helps us out on the farm throughout the year especially our two excellent employees, Kyle Hinkle and Larry Dunivant. They do a great job every day. To my dad, Ron, for his hard work and dedication.

While we understand the need for heifer bulls (our recommendation is 7 CED and around 2 or lower on BW) we also think that the Calving Ease Direct EPD may be misunderstood. This graph shows that from an 18 CED Sire compared to an 0 CED Sire there is only a 6% increase of assisted births in first calf heifers. The bottom line is CED EPD is for bulls going on heifers, selecting high CED bulls for cow’s could generate undesirably low birthweights and conversely make smaller pelvic areas in their progeny.

GUARANTEE

First breeding season guarantee will convey with each purchase. A season is defined as the first 90 days the bull is first turned out. Replacements will be granted if available or credit will be given minus salvage value of $1,500 if a bull proves to not be a satisfactory breeder. Notify us as soon as possible and before salvaging your bull. This is not mortality insurance and do not guarantee against neglect. Your purchase is a major investment in your cowherd, mortality insurance will be available sale day.

The incidence of calving difficulty in Angus cattle is very low. While these data reflect some corrective matings, a very high percentage of calves born to Angus heifers, sired by Angus bulls with breed average or greater CE EPDs, are born unassisted.

YEARLING AND FALL ANGUS BULLS Leading the sale is what we think is a super complete bull for phenotype, performance data, EPDS, DNA, and pedigree. A great choice for use on heifers without giving up any growth as this fall bull beat the average of that group for adjusted weaning weight by 8% and adjusted yearling weight by 13%. His frame will set him right in the middle of the road suiting most all customers and his disposition will make him a pet. His dam is a first calf heifer who has done everything right.

When it comes to carcass value this guy scanned very well and can call him a maternal and terminal influenced bull.

This set of three embryo transplant calves are an excellent choice for someone needing a tight genetic pool to turn out in a pasture. We can recommend 7 and 9 for heifers and would guarantee them all for great growth with Lot 7 being one of the thickest bulls in the sale. Lots 8 and 9 rank as the second and third highest yearling height EPD in the sale if you’re looking for added size. Their donor dam possesses a super maternal pedigree with great accuracy and proof. The blend of Jet Black and Hoover Dam together should add muscle, flesh and good replacement females. She reports 5 BW@100, 5 WW@100 and 5 YW@106. This brother will be more suitable for heifers. You ask how does that work in a full set of brothers?

We pull DNA on all of these bulls to get more accurate information on things especially like birth and CED. Just look at human brothers and sisters to see that there can be and are differences. The donor dam of these two bulls has 82 registered offspring between here and Galaxy Beef. She is a Pathfinder cow with 3 BW@97, 3 WW@106, 3 YW@108, 28 IMF@103 and 28 RE@101. Enough can’t be said for her daughters in production. Use these bulls for big weights but also keep back the replacement females.
