Cattlemen, Welcome to our 12th annual Stavick Simmental Sale! We are excited about the future of beef production and believe our bulls will compete with the industry of any breed.

As feed costs continue to rise Stavick Simmental has dedicated itself to production, profitability and performance. As indicated by the American Simmental Association we are considered a “performance advocate”. It is the highest level of reporting data on ALL cattle in the herd. Each year all cows are enrolled in the Total Herd Enrollment (THE) program and individual data is collected throughout the year. This data includes Birth Weight, Weaning Weight, Yearling Weight, Yearling Hip Height and Ultrasound data for carcass measurements. We are one of only twenty-four herds that made this criteria in 2010 for the entire Simmental Association!

It takes a great deal of effort to obtain this information but it is the fastest and most predictable path to making genetic change in any herd. As you look through the catalog know that every animal that was born at Stavick Simmental in 2010 is in this data collected, not just the top end, leaving the bottom end out.

Stavick Simmental is currently expanding its herd. We have retained a large number of heifers over the past three years and have purchased unique performance driven pedigrees out of two great programs. We went to Remington Land and Cattle out of Canada to expand our red program and to Triangle J Simmental in Nebraska to expand our composite program. Watch for their influence in our pedigrees in upcoming sales! We are retaining all of our 2011 year females for expansion. We hope to have at least 50 bulls in the 2013 sale!

The bulls were developed on a pellet feed developed by Cargill specifically for these animals. It is a high roughage complete feed intended to produce high muscle and bone growth along with developing the testicles for reproduction. They all have been vaccinated with Bovishield 5, Alpha 7, and Resprishield at 60, 205 and 330 days of age respectively. They were wormed with Dectomax at 205 and 330 days of age. Breeding evaluation and scrotal measurements were done by Dr. Holly Roe-Johnson.

Carcass traits will be ultrasounded by sale time. This information will be provided as a supplement, as cattle must be close to 1 year of age to collect this data.

Sires for this years offering include our herd bull battery of Stav Hitchpin 601S, Stav Ironman 915W, Stav Apollo 920W and Stav Magnus 801U. Those of you who have watched our program know these bulls were retained in our herd as the best of the best and will stand with any AI sire. We also do an extensive AI program. Those reference sires are: RC Club King, Triple C Bettis, IR Real Value, Ankonian Red Caesar, STF/RP Savvy, PPSR Nophalt, SRS Fortune 500, STF Domonique, SS Ebonys Grandmaster and Connealy Lead On. All cattle selling with be registered with the ASA and transferred at no cost to the buyer. All bulls are eligible to return to the ranch and be delivered around April 1st to the 10th.

Here is a unique blend of pedigrees. Sired by Savvy and out of a Steakmaker cow. Every so often you find a pedigree that no matter what we breed her too she has a low bw calf. We bred her to Savvy in hopes of adding some BW but as you see he had a 62 actual BW! I won’t go as far to say a hf bull but would work very well on some second calf heifers that need to add growth to.

Red bull out of Dominique and a Fortune 500 Red cow. This calf has a huge middle on some big feet! Could be used as a terminal sire or keep his heifers. His EPD says -4.7 for milk. Do not think of this as a negative. It is my opinion the Simmental breed can have too much milk. We generally breed for about a -2 to +4 milk epd and you won’t have to worry about bad udders and scours let alone the increased nutritional requirements of getting these heavy milking cows rebred in 45 days.
