We are excited to welcome you to our 8th Annual Production Sale, March 26th 2022. A year ago, I sat on the auction block with a secret I could hardly contain. Jamie shared with me earlier that week she was pregnant! After the sale, my boys ran up to me excited about how their bulls sold – but they had to tell me how much they had sold for, because I was so thrilled with the secret I had, my usually sharp mind was more than a little distracted. We welcomed Whitley Rae Estle James Rogers on November 18, 2021 and it is such a joy being “Rogers, party of 5”. I love watching my boys with their sister and I especially love watching my wife being such a great momma to our kids.

Great Mommas could be the theme for this year’s sale. This impressive set of bulls passed through a rigorous selection process. Structure, disposition, performance and EPD’s all play a part in selecting the bulls we offer. But, one of the key factors I use in selecting bulls for our customers is considering their Keeping the family in the farm and the farm in the family. momma! How does she work in our fescue environment? Did she breed up fast? Does she consistently raise the right kind of calves? Am I proud of her feet and udder? Before a bull makes it to the development pen, he has to have a great momma. The bulls have been developed with longevity in mind on big pasture so they are in shape athletes ready to do their job for you.

Speaking of great mommas, we are offering the largest set of registered females to date. We have been expanding our herd the past few years. It is now time to share from the heart of our herd that we have diligently built with discipline and strict selection criteria. These cow families work well in our fescue environment where they aren’t pampered and are expected to perform. Switching our herd to fall calving meant that we had to cut back on utilizing AI as much as we would like for a few years. This led us to purchasing some of the finest bulls in the breed to use natural service and you have the chance at these exciting, fresh genetics as a result. Calves by PATRIOT, INSIGHT, CENTERPOINT, and INTRIGUE are being offered as well as the chance to buy cows bred to ANDRAS OUTFRONT and MCL RED CLOUD. Every mating is designed to build better cows.

Delivery We encourage customers to bring their trailers sale day. We are all in this fuel price situation together, so to make it worth your while to bring your trailer we offer the following discounts: $50 discount on bulls and registered females picked up on sale day, $25 on commercial females (Lots 60-91). Cattle must be picked up or have delivery scheduled by April 2nd. Starting April 3rd, a $3/day feeding charge will apply. Rogers Cattle Co. and Lile Farms are not responsible for cattle purchased, they become the full responsibility of the new owner after purchase. We offer delivery within 100 miles to central locations and will charge a mileage fee beyond that distance.

Keeping the family in the farm and the farm in the family is a driving force in our operation. Everyone plays a role in getting the job done. Jim leads the way with managing forages and has taken on a bulk of the feeding this year as growing ShowMe Genetics takes more time.

His mechanical expertise led him to start his own business 25 years ago and he is highly sought after in the community for advice.

Our farm is more productive and efficient because he keeps everything ready to use and creates tools to make jobs easier. Jan continues to keep us all grounded and well fed and is always a gracious host to the many visitors and customers that stop in. It’s encouraging to watch the boys each play their role as they take on new responsibilities each year. We are thankful to take care of God’s cows together.

Bull Care

All bulls meet the requirements of the newly introduced Missouri Red Angus “Fescue Belt Certification” being bred and raised in Missouri by members of the Missouri Red Angus Association. Additionally you will see “badges” by each lot indicating if they will have genomicallyenhanced EPD’s GGP. We encourage customers to use the Red Angus FCCP tgging program and will pay for 25 FCCP tags per bull purchased. Please visit with us about these value-added marketing opportunities for your calves.

Optimizing Your Investment in Quality Genetics

Bull Semen Evaluation All bulls will undergo a bull semen evaluation. If not turning out immediately after the sale, we recommend you retest your bulls.

Health Cattle are in a complete vaccination program for IBR/BVD/PI3/Lepto/Vibrio and dewormed at weaning. In February, they go through another round of vaccinations and all bulls receive Multimin 90. We recommend bulls receive booster for Lepto/Vibrio prior to turnout.

Heifer Development Heifers are developed in large contemporary groups on pasture with free choice grass hay, wheat/sudan haylage and mineral. Our cooperators raise their heifers under similar conditions.

Heifer Pelvic Measurements and Repro Tract Scores All Open heifers have been pelvic measured and repro tract scored.

This information wil be available sale day. All heifers must meet our own replacement standards to be offered in the sale.

Welcome, Whitley!

Virgin bulls, either yearling or 18-month old, are an important investment in the future of your herd. If you keep the bull you buy today for 5 years, his last daughters will be born in 2028, and hopefully they stay in your herd until at least 2038. That means you are not just investing dollars in these bulls, but you are investing in the future genetic and earning potential of your whole operation.

These bulls are still growing and need to be treated as such. The stress of the sale, hauling, and relocating bulls can challenge their immune system. We encourage you to keep them where you can check on them and feed them daily. We recommend access to high-quality forage along with 8 to 12 pounds of grain per day, which will allow for proper rumen health and allow the bulls to continue to gain about 2 pounds per day until turn out. We believe strongly in a good mineral program and would gladly make recommendations or share info on what we use. With that in mind, we encourage you to provide an environment where your bulls can continue to grow and develop, while getting cows bred.

A yearling bull will not be able to service as many cows as a mature, experienced bull. We typically recommend no more than 20 cows per yearling bull for a 60-day breeding season. Once the breeding season is over, it is time to put bulls back into a growing situation, where they can continue to mature and recover from their work load. They may need extra care as they grow and lose their baby teeth after their first breeding season. This is a time when bulls can gain back weight lost during breeding season, grow closer to their mature weight, and be vaccinated and wormed.

Fertility Guarantee Based on these suggested Bull Care guidelines, we also recommend that bulls be run in single-sire pastures or in multi-sire pastures (large, not small pens) with only bulls of their own age/experience. We will guarantee bulls to be breeders for one 90-day breeding season if these recommendations are followed. In accordance with the RAAA suggested Terms & Conditions, bulls are considered to be a breeder if they either: A.) Settle one-third or more of the healthy cows he serves.

B.) Is the sire of 20 or more animals. C.) Settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during any six-month period or trial. This guarantee is not an insurance or mortality policy, but a guarantee on functional fertility. It is not a substitute or replacement for poor management. Buyer assumes all risks for injury due to running bulls together or management decisions outside genetic control. For the guarantee to apply, we ask that you contact us as soon as a condition is observed and before the animal is sold. We will work with you to determine whether the animal is returned or sold for slaughter. We will attempt to provide a suitable replacement. If one cannot be provided of equal or greater value, we will issue a sale credit to be used in a future sale for the full purchase price less the salvage value of the animal.

Selecting the Next Addition to Your Herd We hope the following tools and EPD guide (page 26) will aid you in making selection decisions.

Please, feel free to contact us with any questions. We strive to be transparent in all we do, including describing the cattle.

Birth Weights/Calving Ease

Retained Ownership

For your convenience, we have scored the bulls for calving ease. These are based on EPD’s birth weights, pedigrees, and our observations of the cattle/their parents. This is an opinion, and only one factor that should be taken into account when selecting a bull. Birth weights are highly affected by environmental factors: temperature, nutrition, feeding, etc.

HHH Three Stars: We believe the bull can be used on heifers under standard conditions with little or no calving difficulty.

HH Two Stars: We would recommend the bull be used on growthy heifers or cows under standard conditions with little or no calving difficulty.

H One Star: We recommend the bull be used on cows.

We are retaining a 50% semen ownership on all bulls except where stated. Buyers receive full possession and salvage rights. This allows us to use the genetics of the bulls we are offering in our herd at our expense and your convenience. Some bulls may be collected and have a semen bank at ShowMe Genetics prior to sale day. Supplement sheet and information from the block will be stated if new bull owner will receive part of semen bank collected prior to sale day.

Docility Gentle cattle are easier to care for and more fun to own. Our kids farm alongside us and we have zero tolerance for bad dispositions. We have scored each bull throughout their development for docility HHH Three Stars: Gentle, easy through the chute. Dam/sire exhibit similar disposition.

HH Two Stars: Gentle in the pasture, exhibits a larger flight-zone in the working pen. Dam/sire exhibit similar disposition H One Star: Too nervous/flighty. We rarely have cattle in this category.

They are culled and not offered in our sale.

Our program focuses on fescue tolerance, sound feet, quality udders and early hair shedding. Our cowherd is not pampered by any means; they are placed in an environment that requires them to be fertile, easy fleshing and docile. All our cattle are exposed to electric hotwire fencing, ATV’s and kids. All bulls have been born and raised in fescue country. We strive to give you the most up-to-date and valuable information to help you make your selections.

Eli and Ethan had a successful deer season with Papa Jim. Eli got an 8 point, and Ethan got a 4 point.

We rejoice with Eli and Ethan for their decisions to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

We had great vacations this summer and got to meet up at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming for the pancake breakfast and the incredible rodeo.

Guide to Indexes & EPDs: ProS Index – ProS stands for Profitability and Sustainability. This new index is an allpurpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments of the beef supply chain. While we are very excited to have this tool, it is important to realize that ProS takes into account both HerdBuilder and GridMaster. There are several ways an animal can earn a high ProS ranking. Use this as a tool to find cattle that do many things well, but don’t forget to also look at individual EPD traits you need to focus on in your herd.

DMI – Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. While this is a relatively newer and lower accuracy EPD, we select for lower intake cattle that still gain adequately.

MILK – Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. Too little milk affects weaning weights, too much milk can have a negative impact on fertility and breed back.

HB – HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Recently updated, this is an important tool to use when selecting for cow/calf traits and retaining replacement heifers and marketing all steer calves.

ME – Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintenance energy requirements.

GM – GridMaster has also been updated and is a true post-weaning, carcass driven index, predicting the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance, and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a qualitybased carcass grid.

CEM – Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. We focus on this trait in tandem with CED and taking pelvic measurements on yearling heifers.

HPG – Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding.

STAY – Stayability should predict differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age.

STAY heavily influences both ProS and HerdBuilder Indexes.

CED – Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2 year old dams (Percent/High Value). We recommend selecting for adequate CED without getting too extreme.

MARB – Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. We continually focus on this trait.

BW – Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. We recommend utilizing CED, as BW is part of the CED calculation.

YG – Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat.

WW – Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weights.

CW – Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight.

YW – Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weights. Excessive YW may lead to larger cows than your environment can support.

REA – Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.

ADG – Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age.

FAT – Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs. While this can impact YG, we prefer cattle that rank lower for this trait as they tend to stay in better flesh and breed back better.

KEEPING THE FAMILY IN THE FARM AND THE FARM IN THE FAMILY Steven, Eli, and Ethan had the incredible chance to help move cattle on horseback on the beautiful Milk Creek Reds Ranch with our good friends Bruce and Tena Ketchum in Montana.

Jim, Jan and the boys had a fun getaway in the RV and went fishing on Lake Pomme de Terre with Uncle Dean.

We got enough snow this year for everyone to take a turn on the snowmobile. It has become one of Ethan’s favorite hobbies!

Eli and Ethan expanded their roles on the hay crew this summer.

Ethan showed his new heifer purchased from Campbell Creek Red Angus.

Everyone has their buddy cow on the farm: Ethan and Annie, Eli and 509 aka 6045 Fatty Patty.

Eli is becoming very skilled on the backhoe, skidsteer, and tractors with Papa Jim’s guidance.

Papa and the boys had fun taking rides in his “new” 1936 Harley Davidson Police motorcycle and side car

Ethan is learning the trade with the ShowMe crew as they evaluate bulls.

Papa helped Eli plant his first sweet corn patch. Eli had a good harvest, shared some with the family, and had a booth to sell some.

Eli and Ethan had the opportunity to participate in the Junior Red Angus Young Stockman’s program with their Rogers and Casebolt cousins.

Whitley has been a joyful addition to the family and is the center of attention!
