Liverpool Chimney Sweep’s Offer to Jobless Young People

An expanding Liverpool chimney sweeping firm is on the hunt for the next generation of sootbusters. Mr Soot Chimney Sweep wants to give two unemployed young people a unique opportunity to take their first steps into the world of flues and fireplaces. The first role up for grabs is a trainee chimney sweep, while the second is a chance to work as a marketing assistant for the company, which has offices in the city’s historic Baltic Triangle. The vacancies are being offered through the Kickstart scheme – a government initiative aimed at providing opportunities for 16-24-year-olds who are on Universal Credit. Mr Soot owner David Sudworth said: “As a parent of teenagers, I know just how difficult it was for young people to secure opportunities even before Covid hit. That’s why I’m thrilled we are taking part in the Kickstart initiative. “It’s fair to say very few young people would normally consider working for a chimney sweeping company. But, for the right person, it can be an excellent career choice.” David said it was also important that one of the roles offered was in the Mr Soot Marketing Team. “Marketing is a really competitive field and opportunities – especially for those who may not have gone via the university graduate route – can be very scarce indeed.” The roles come at exactly the right time for the company. “Even though we are only at the start of the busy sweeping season, it’s clear that demand for our services is greater than ever before,” continued David. “It’s an exciting time for the business, as we are now serving more customers, and responding to them quicker, than ever before. “The future is looking very positive indeed.”
