Understanding Clinical Trials

Clinical Trials

If you are being treated in the NHS you may be asked to take part in a clinical trial. Clinical trials are research studies that involve patients or healthy people and are designed to test new treatments. This booklet has been written to try to answer the many questions people ask about clinical trials. It explains what clinical trials are and why and how they are carried out. It is designed to give you the information to help you to decide whether to take part in a trial. It also includes some of the questions you may want to ask before you make a decision to join a trial.
