Schedule Highlights
Each lower school classroom has two lead teachers and 22-24 students. This co-teaching model allows for all students to meet access and challenge points throughout their learning. Students in our lower school have reading, writing, and math daily, social studies twice per week, science twice per week in grades K-2, and thrice per week in grades 3-4. 5th grade will have science and social studies four times per week. We are one of the very few schools in the US that uses AnjiPlay building materials as part of its day program. AnjiPlay is a play-based approach that asks teachers to stand back while students engage in negotiation, collaboration, risk-taking, and problem-solving. Students enter Live Oak at various reading levels. Literacy instruction happens daily and includes collaboration between our learning specialists and coteachers in order to differentiate instruction. We formally assess students three times per year to measure student skill level and group students into smaller reading groups within their classrooms. Our co-teaching model ensures that every student has their academic needs met. Our goal is for students to see a year’s worth of growth in a year's time. Students in grades K-5 have Spanish 2x/week. 6th - 8th graders have Spanish 3x/week. At Live Oak, learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom! We pride ourselves on our kindergartners exploring San Francisco twice per month. Homework begins in 2nd grade at Live Oak, with a focus on math and nightly reading, and progresses in each grade thereafter. Our students love our lunch! Parents/guardians love that it’s included in tuition and provides an opportunity to volunteer! Everyday we serve over 20 different locally sourced fruits/vegetables in our salad bar. We will always have two soup options, white rice, and chicken. We publish our monthly lunch menus to our online Portal.
