From the PISD Superintindent

Welcome to Prosper Eagle Baseball! On behalf of Prosper Independent School District and the Prosper ISD Board of Trustees I would like to welcome you to our great community and to tonight’s baseball game. I would like to extend a special greeting to the students, parents, and community members from our visiting school district as well as our own team as we share in an evening of celebrating the competition between schools.

I would also like to thank our coaches for their commitment to the overall development of each of the student athletes that compete this evening. A good coach can change a game, but a great coach can change a life. The investment by the coaches on the field tonight comes from the heart to mold and develop the student athletes.

The additional time and effort for student athletes should be applauded and admired. The work, dedication, character building and responsibility you see before you tonight will have a lifelong impact as each of these student athletes grows into adulthood. The moments that occur tonight are beyond special as these stories become stories that our student athletes will continue to tell through the years.

Tonight, baseball fans will share a universal language that will exude passion, enthusiasm and raw emotion. Please remember how important the moments you have before you tonight are to our student athletes. Support them, encourage them, and help us teach them the love of sportsmanship.

In the end, baseball is a game about life that teaches us all how to work together as a team. There is just something exceptional about Prosper Baseball and it is my hope that you will enjoy your visit to Prosper ISD and live in the moment. As fans and supporters, we ask that you respect the efforts of both teams along with the umpires as we enjoy tonight’s competition for there will be many young athletes and young fans observing and following your lead.

As always, we appreciate your support of our students and wish you a safe journey home.

From the PISD Director of Athletics

Welcome to Prosper HS’s Eagle Nest! Here in Prosper ISD Athletics, it is our goal to develop better student athletes and to develop better people. The entire coaching staff of Prosper ISD will encourage and empower student athletes to become better students, athletes, leaders and people. Prosper ISD student athletes have the expectation they will consistently work to improve themselves, their teammates and the game as a whole. Prosper ISD Parents will be supportive and positive at all times and help their student athletes to absorb the life lessons being taught. Athletics is an educational process which requires all three vital components – Coaches, Parents & Student Athletes – to unite together to create the best possible educational athletic experience.

There are unbelievable successes happening in Prosper ISD Athletics. Before our Spring seasons were cancelled, we earned 3 District Championships along with 1 Regional Championship. We also had two state champions in Aubrey O’Connell (XC) and Rylan Bonds (WR). We had 15 programs advance as Regional Qualifiers along with 63 individual Regional Qualifiers. Prosper HS also had 27 individuals advance as State Qualifiers in their specific sport as this is our highest number of qualifying athletes so far. This past school year, 36 athletes received full or partial scholarships in order to pursue their higher education over the next few years. Our athletes’ academic success is proven with the 253 of them who earned Academic All-District honors and the 54 earning Academic All-State honors We are VERY proud of these achievements as they represent the great student athletes, students, administrators, parents and overall community we have around Prosper HS! We are excited to see what this Spring brings for our PHS Baseball program. Our season was cut short last year and our boys and Coaches are fired up and ready to handle their unfinished business.

No matter the outcome of tonight’s game, every student and student athlete involved appreciates your support while they perform and more importantly, afterwards, no matter the outcome.

Meet the Coaches

HEAD COACH Scott Holder Scott Holder is in his 2nd year as head coach at Prosper High School and his 23rd year in education. A native of Thorndale, TX, Holder graduated from Thorndale High School where he participated in five sports and was an all-state football and baseball player, winning a state championship. After high school, he attended Blinn Junior College in 1993, lettering in football and baseball.

After one year at Blinn, Holder transferred to Texas A&M University to pursue his education and coaching career.

Holder graduated from A&M in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and minoring in English. After three years as an assistant at Cameron Yoe High School, Holder began his head coaching career in 2002. Over the course of his career, Holder has coached at Cameron Yoe, Thorndale, Cuero, College Station, and now at Prosper High School. Over the course of 19 years as a head coach, Holder’s squads have made the playoffs in all 18 seasons, won 14 district titles, 4 state tournament appearances, and two state championships, with the most recent being at College Station High School. He was selected as State High School Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2014. Holder was also selected by his peers as the Head Coach for the THSBCA 5/6A South All Star team at Dell Diamond in 2015. Coach Holder, his wife Kim and 4-year-old Nathan currently live in Prosper. He has three daughters. Kamryn recently graduated from Texas A&M University and has started the Masters Program. She has a 3-year-old daughter Jace. Hadley is in school to be a skin therapist and Kylar is studying to be an elementary teacher. In his spare time, Coach Holder enjoys hunting, playing golf, being in the water, and spending time with his family.

ASSISTANT COACH Coach Phil Berndsen Coach Berndsen enters his first year as an assistant coach at Prosper High School under coach Holder. Berndsen comes to PHS from spending the last seven years at the junior college level as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In his seven years at the college level, Berndsen has helped develop 34 players who have moved onto the division I level and another 5 players who either were drafted or signed professional contracts. Coach Berndsen has a achelors degree in Human Resource Management, and a masters’ degree in Higher Education. Coach is married to his wife Jordan, who is a teacher within Prosper ISD, they share two children, Crue (6), Blakely (2) and are expecting a boy this coming July (Brooks). They reside in Prosper.

ASSISTANT COACH Coach Clay Wilson Clay Wilson is in is 8th season with the Prosper Baseball program and is the JV Green Head Coach. Wilson is in his 24th year of education and his 8th year teaching at Prosper ISD where he currently teaches Economics at PHS. He graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas where he played football, basketball and baseball. After high school, Wilson attended Texas Tech University where he earned a BA in History. Prior to his career at Prosper ISD, Wilson was the varsity baseball assistant coach, pitching coach and outfield coach at Palo Duro High School from 1997-1999; 1999-2005 Head Baseball Coach at River Road High school with a record of 89-65-2; 2005-2009 Head Baseball Coach at Pampa High school with a record of 66-52-1; 2009-2014 varsity assistant baseball coach, hitting coordinator and outfield instructor at JJ Pearce High School. Coach Willison has been married to his wife, Christi, for 26 years. They have 2 children, Zach (22) and Mason (18). In his free time, he enjoys golf, watching movies and watching his kids play sports.

Meet the Coaches

ASSISTANT COACH Coach Nick De La Cerda The 2020-21 school year will be Coach De La Cerda’s 5th year as a Texas educator/coach, and his 1st as a teacher/coach at Prosper High School. Previous coaching experience includes duties as the Interim Head Baseball Coach/Pitching Coordinator with Hillsboro High School. He was also the Assistant Offensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator. During his time at Hillsboro, he was able to help advance 2 players to play at the next level on Baseball Scholarships. Prior to Hillsboro, Coach De La Cerda coached at Dripping Springs High School as a Football and Baseball Coach. While at Dripping Springs, he served as the Pitching Coordinator, where his teams were able to advance to the playoffs every year. More specifically, they were able to reach the Regional Semifinals, Area Round and Regional Quarter Finals during this time. Of his 3 years spent in Dripping Springs, he was able to advance 18 players to play at the next level. Coach De La Cerda is a 2012 graduate of New Braunfels High School, in which he earned a two year letter in Football and Baseball. He continued his education at Tarleton State University, where he earned a Bachelor in Science Degree majoring in Kinesiology. He has been married to his wife Callie for 3 years and has an amazing son named Parker.

ASSISTANT COACH Coach Donny McEwan Coach McEwan is in his second year with the Prosper Eagle Baseball program. He teaches College & Career Readiness, Physical Education and Health at Rogers MS. Coach McEwan graduated from Terrell High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and track. He earned All District Honors in both Baseball and Football: 2-time Unanimous Decision Outfield, Defensive Back, Kicker, Punter & Tight End. After high school he played football at Navarro College and Midwestern State University before heading to the University of Houston where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Kinesiology and a minor in Health. Coach was given the Outstanding Undergrad Award for Sports Administration by the College of Education Faculty.

Coach McEwan has been married to his wife Mitzi for 30 years and they have one son, Blake who is a pitcher and outfielder on varsity.

Lance Ragland, Sportsgram Commentator Lance Ragland is in his 5th season as the voice of Prosper Eagle Baseball on The Sportsgram Network. A graduate of the University of North Texas, Lance has been broadcasting multiple sports on www.sportsgram.net for over 9 years.

Before moving back to the Metroplex, Lance spent the 2016 baseball season as a radio broadcaster with the Quad Cities River Bandits (MLB- Houston Astros) in Davenport, IA. Lance and his wife, Aylssa, have a 2 year-old son, Chase Michael.

Ken Mayberry, Voice of the Eagles

Ken Mayberry is the “Voice of Prosper Baseball”. Maybery is in his 10th season as PA announcer and faithful supporter of Prosper Eagle Baseball. Mayberry, a long time fried of Coach Carpenter, was the baseball PA announcer at Lawrence E Elkins for 16 years prior to coming to Prosper. He also serves as color analyst for the Sportsgram Network when the Eagles are on the road. Mayberry and his wife, Lois, have been married 53 years and currently lives in Prosper. Together, they have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren.

Maggie Hale, Sideline Reporter

Maggie Hale is a current senior who has been involved in sports media since freshman year. Through her 4 years at Prosper High School, she’s created 2 live sports shows, sideline reported at all sports events, as well as created hype videos for football, baseball and basketball. She’s won 3 Lone Star Emmy Awards as well as winning the state ILPC awards 5 times.

Her achievements don’t stop at the high school level. Maggie is currently working as the in-game host for the Frisco Rough Riders and the Sideline Reporter for TCU Football. Maggie will be continuing her sports broadcast career at TCU with a major in Sports Broadcast and double minor in Psychology and Business.

Booster Club Greetings Parents, Guardians, Fans, and Students of Prosper High School On behalf of the Prosper High School Baseball Booster Club, we want to welcome you to another milestone season of Prosper Eagle Baseball. This season will be equally exciting as we continue the beginning of the coaching era of Coach Scott Holder. Coach Holder brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program and will continue success of years past!

Prosper Eagle Baseball and the Booster Club are supported by the best coaches, parents, businesses, faculty, and community in Texas High School Baseball.
