First, I want to welcome back our CISD Administrators, Faculty, Parents and Students to our campuses for the start of the 3rd 9-week period! It is my hope that you had a blessed and restful break and are renewed and ready to start the 2nd semester with enthusiasm and a determined commitment to your goals. Before we dismissed for Christmas break, our students in grades 2-5 competed in the UIL Academic Contest held at Hilltop Elementary in Argyle, Texas. Results were finalized right as our break started. As a district, we placed second with many of our students earning individual medals and team awards. Below, you will find the results for the UIL Elementary Academic competition. We are very proud of these students and their commitment to their contests. I want to also thank our teachers who coached and prepared these students for their events.

We are also proud of our cheerleaders, drill team members, Brigade and Bobcat Band members for the many hours of practices these students put in to perform for their families and fans.

Jill H. Sentlingar, DDS Lara T Cosco DDS, FAGD Since 2004, Prosper Family Dentistry has been serving Prosper and Celina. Dr. Jill and Dr. Lara’s creative passion for general dentistry allowed the doctors to develop a unique, comprehensive riskmanagement approach to dentistry for not only oral health, but the entire head and neck as well. Their approach uses a comprehensive exam combined with 3D imaging. They are the only general dentists in Prosper utilizing an in-office iCAT 3D imaging system which enables them to view not only the mouth and teeth, but also the surrounding structures including the sinuses, airway spaces and upper cervical spine. These structures can be seen in a “real-world” view that traditional dental imaging does not provide. These comprehensive techniques benefit both children and adults for their long term dental and oral health.

Cryotherapy is an exciting new technology that triggers a systemic anti-inflammatory response in the body. Although new to the Prosper and Celina areas, this technology has been utilized for more than 20 years in Europe. Whole Body Cryotherapy was originally developed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, an inflammatory, autoimmune disease of the joints. While incredibly successful for that issue, it quickly became apparent that there were many other overall health benefits achieved. In fact, it has been discovered that with regular treatments, endorphins are released which help alleviate depression and anxiety, even helping you sleep better. Here’s how it works…the Cryochamber is a singleperson device which envelopes the body but allows the head and neck area to still be exposed at the top. The chamber can reach temperatures as low as 250 degrees below Fahrenheit, so socks and gloves are worn to protect hands and feet. Once in the chamber, the temperature is significantly lowered during the first January 2016

90 seconds, and the entire therapy sessions lasts only 2-3 minutes. The results are often seen immediately and some even experience an exhilarating feeling after the treatment. This detoxification of the body and systemic response are crucial in eliminating inflammatory issues and the chronic pain that comes with it. Whole Body Cryotherapy is not just for athletes, although it has been known to improve performance for athletes and decreases their recovery time after workouts and is used widely by professional sports teams. In fact, about half of Collin County Cryo’s clients are regular, everyday people who suffer from the normal aches and pains of getting older. Bill and Holly have seen how cryotherapy has improved these clients’ overall health and pain reduction. What differentiates Collin County Cryo and makes them unique in the Prosper and Celina area is their commitment to their clients’ safety. Not only are the treatments medically supervised, but Holly’s experience as a critical care registered nurse is an added bonus. Her medical background gives her a greater understanding of the client’s medical history and can potentially detect situations where a doctor’s approval is needed before beginning treatment. True to their commitment of improving your overall health and wellness, Collin County Cryo is excited to announce that they are adding some additional services in the very near future. In addition to cryotherapy, they will soon offer some exciting new services: infrared sauna, hydromassage, licensed massage therapy (specializing in lymphatic drainage), Cryofacial therapy and Normatec.

In His Presence

Simplify One of the Pharisees thinking to entrap Jesus asked him, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?”Matt 22:36 Now the reason this was such a tricky question was because of the complexity surrounding Jewish law. Picking the “great commandment” out of the plethora of commandments would surely lead to dilemmas and contradictions. However, the response given by Jesus was not only the best answer that could have been given, but it was also beautiful in its simplicity. Matthew 22:37-40 V37: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. V38: This is the first and great commandment. V39: And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. V40: On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. The life and teachings of Jesus are replete with beautiful simplicity. His life was not surrounded by time-consuming “things”, but rather with people-focused service. His sermons were not long orations—they were short and simple parables. Even his miracles were typically quiet, singular and performed not with complex rites, but rather with a simple touch or word. Our world today has exponentially increased in complexity—but only if we let it. The things necessary for life—food, shelter, clothing—haven’t changed much over the centuries, at least the essential versions of them. Hardly a single soul goes hungry in the U.S. and we fill ourselves with delicacies, fresh fruits in the middle of winter, and other specialties that a king would have considered a banquet a few centuries ago. The average home in the U.S. with its indoor plumbing, central air and heat, electric lighting, spacious rooms, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, washers, dryers, televisions, and communications would be considered palatial and luxurious by standards of 150 years ago. And the clothes—instead of wearing them out, we fill our closets with shoes, coats, dresses, suits and other trappings that would have outfitted a small village not long ago. But this is not all, we’ve taken the term “toys” to a whole new level. We’ve graduated from the childish simple toys of yesterday to the adult toys of today. We drive them, fly them, listen to them, play them, communicate with them, boat in them, golf them, watch them, pay for them, care for them, spend hours with them. Two hundred years ago we didn’t do any of these—we were spending most of our time putting food on the table, providing shelter and clothing for our families. In this new year upon us, let us resolve to “live within our needs” (not our means) by simplifying our lives as Jesus taught. The two great commandments haven’t changed. It is far better to love the Lord and our neighbor than it is to spend the money and the time on our toys and the non-essential essentials of life. Why live in a mansion when a modest home will do? Why always eat out when a simple meal at home is much less expensive and a family oriented affair? The time we save is so much better spent on our family and our neighbor. After all, simply serving our neighbor is truly serving God. Richard B.
