Welcome to the Center for Healthy Living

The Center for Healthy Living provides free and confidential mental health counseling, nutrition counseling, and health services to all Long Island University students.

Long Island University students have access to on-campus mental health counseling services, nutrition counseling, religious and spiritual counseling, and access to telehealth and local in-person health care. The Center for Healthy Living has licensed mental health professionals, graduate student therapists, and nutritionists to provide consultation and support. Medical referrals are made in partnership with Northwell Health—Go Health.

The Center for Healthy Living is a collaboration of on-campus resources and strong partnerships with local health organizations and professionals, including Northwell Health College Behavioral Health Program, Northwell Health—Go Health, the LIU Post Psychological Services Center, and the LIU Post Nutrition Department.

Health and Medical Support

Northwell Health—GoHealth is the health services provider for Long Island University. All students, faculty, and staff have easy and convenient access to:

•Same-day virtual visits with certified providers, available 365 days/year, anywhere

•In-person appointments, including evenings, holidays, & weekends at 55 New York locations.

•Seamless Referrals to Northwell Health specialists, if needed.

•Patient Portal with easy access to visit and test results.

LIU community may schedule an appointment for telehealth or in-person care via the LIU/GoHealth Portal. These services are in-network with most major New York and national insurance plans, and provide affordable same-day pricing for patients without insurance. Students are responsible for providing their insurance information or paying for visits. Any student who needs assistance with transportation should contact the Center for Healthy Living. The Department of Public Safety is available 24/7/365. For medical or health-related emergencies please contact 911 or 516-299-2222.

The Center for Healthy Living houses a Lactation Center to support breastfeeding mothers. The facility is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and is equipped with a refrigerator, comfortable furniture, and sanitary products.

Mental Health Counseling

The Center for Healthy Living has licensed mental health professionals and graduate student therapists oncampus to assist students. Counseling services are offered free and confidential to all Long Island University students during the academic year.

Services offered at the Center for Healthy Living include counseling, group counseling, and health and wellness campus programs. Students may also be referred to an off-campus professional for long-term care. In addition, the Center for Healthy Living supports other campuses within the LIU system, including Brooklyn, Brentwood, Hudson, Riverhead, and the Global program. The staff at the Center for Healthy Living provides support by helping students to:

• Keep anxiety at bay

• Manage moods

• Reduce stress

• Foster self-esteem

• Understand gender identity

• Resolve conflict

• Improve communication skills

• Cope with grief and loss

• Express anger appropriately

• Develop a healthy body image

• Become resilient

• Strengthen interpersonal relationships

Nutritional Services

Campus Nutritionists are available to meet with students to discuss nutritional questions, concerns, and certain health issues, as well as weight loss/management, and developing a healthy lifestyle on and off campus. Campus Nutritionists are available Tuesday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. in the Center for Healthy Living.
