Shortly after joining the company 27 years ago, Paul suggested to the committee that they might want to consider staging “South Pacific”.
Sharon has been performing with the Little Theatre Company for 22 years and during that time has had the opportunity to perform some of the most sought after roles in musical theatre. Principal roles include Ann (Half a Sixpence), Peggy (42nd Street - regional premiere), Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors 1996), Mabel (Mack and Mabel - both 2000 & 2010), Polly (Crazy for You), Nancy (Oliver) and Molly (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers). She has also been a chorus member for “Buddy”, “Copacabana”, “Guys & Dolls” and, most recently, ”Little Shop of Horrors” 2010.
EMILE DE BECQUE
He would now like to take this opportunity to thank them for their considerable foresight and for delaying their decision until he was old enough not only to play the part of Emile de Becque but also to get married and start a family, allowing him the opportunity to share the stage with both his wife and two daughters. He admits - a man couldn’t ask for much more. Whilst waiting, Paul has performed a number of roles including Jigger (Carousel), The Pirate King (Pirates of Penzance), Sky Masterson (Guys & Dolls), The Dentist (Little Shop Of Horrors – 1996), Curly (Oklahoma) and Mack Sennett (Mack & Mabel – both 2000 and 2010).

This is Dave’s 13th consecutive show for the LTC having joined the company for “Hello Dolly” in 2005. He has been lucky enough to play some cracking parts, including Nathan Detroit (Guy and Dolls), Sergeant of Police (Pirates of Penzance), Ricco Castelli (Copacabana) and, most recently, Mr Mushnik (Little Shop of Horrors). In addition to the LTC, Dave is an active member of Southend Shakespeare Company for whom he recently appeared as Lord Montague (Romeo and Juliet) and Ancient Pistol (Henry V- open air summer tour).
Sally learnt her theatre craft at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, qualifying as a specialist Drama teacher. She has been a member of the LTC for 35 years, her first show being “Bitter Sweet” in 1976. During that time she has played numerous leading roles, including Mame (Mame), Aunt Ella (Oklahoma), Lady Thiang (The King and I), Dorothy Brock (42nd Street), Thelma (The Farndale series of Comedies), Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd) and, most recently, Rose (Stepping Out). She has also directed shows, including “The Pajama Game”, “Carousel” and “Kismet”, worked as Chorus Mistress on numerous other shows and served on the LTC committee for many years as a committee member and then as Chairman. As well as taking part in LTC productions and activities, Sally sings with RUG Opera.
George has just finished playing Mr. Todd in a regional tour around London and the South East of “Dead Reckoning”, a new play by Eric Chappell,. Previous credits include: James Hunter (Threshold 19;29 at the Edinburgh Fringe), “Shuffle and Flight” with the National Youth Theatre, Yeoman (Yeomen of the Guard - Carl Rosa Opera at the Tower of London) and “Do the Right Thing”, “Prince Charming” and “Why Wait, Why Not” with Outloud Productions.
LUTHER BILLIS
Dave has also worked on the production side for the LTC, having directed “Summer Holiday” and having worked as Assistant Director on “Oklahoma” and “Little Shop of Horrors”. After “South Pacific” he is looking forward to directing the LTC’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in Oct 2011.
BLOODY MARY
Sally has always wanted to play Bloody Mary – another unglamorous and rather formidable woman to add to her portfolio of roles!

Last year George also played the title role in Southend Shakespeare Company’s “Henry V”, having also appeared in their recent productions of “Henry VI” and “The Hostage”. This is his Little Theatre Company debut.

COLIN BOTT
STEVE WILKINSON
This is Katie’s first show with the LTC after joining in 2010 and she is thrilled to be playing the role of Liat as she has grown up watching and listening to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musicals.
Since joining in 1967, Colin has worked backstage, spent years in the chorus, taken leads in several shows, directed various productions and served on the committee for a number of years. The LTC has been a family concern, with both Colin’s parents and his brother performing alongside him. He met his wife Audrey through the LTC and now their daughter, Nicola, is continuing the family tradition.
Steve joined the LTC in 2003 for “Me and My Girl” and has been involved in all but two shows since. He played Bill Calhoun/Lucentio (Kiss Me Kate), Rudolph (Hello Dolly) and, last year, Geoffrey, the only male character (Stepping Out). He also directed the LTC’S award-winning production of “Sweeney Todd”. Steve works at Westcliff High School for Boys where, apart from teaching mathematics and managing the Sixth Form, he has directed “Les Miserables”, “Chess” and “Joseph”, and last year choreographed a production of “Grease”. He also directs plays and only last week finished a run of “A Few Good Men”.

Katie has participated in both the Southend and Leigh drama festivals from a young age and has previously played leading roles in school productions, including Trixie (Daisy Pulls It Off) and The M.C. (Oh What a Lovely War!). She is very excited to now be performing with an amateur dramatic society for the first time and especially to be working in such a wonderful, historic theatre.
CAPT. BRACKETT
The most memorable highlights of Colin’s 43 years membership have been watching the opening night of “Sweeney Todd “and being the proudest father in the audience as his daughter Nicola took the lead role of Audrey in the LTC’s last production, “Little Shop of Horrors”. Colin has twice performed in the chorus of “South Pacific”, but he has now been promoted to the Commanding Officer of the island Captain Brackett.

LUCY & ELSIE GIBB
This is Hannah and Amy’s second time on stage with the Little Theatre Company. Their first appearance was in “Summer Holiday” 2008, after which they couldn’t wait for another opportunity. They are both also members of the local children’s drama group, ‘Boscats’ who perform once a year: they were successful in gaining the roles of Annie and Molly in their recent musical production of “Annie”. Hannah also attends the Star Studio of Performing Arts where she loves singing and dancing. She has been involved in dance shows locally and has had the great experience of dancing at the Royal Albert Hall.
“South Pacific “is actually Lucy and Elsie’s second show with the LTC, having previously appeared in our production of “Summer Holiday” two years ago. Both girls attend Singer Stage School in Leigh-on-Sea and enjoy all aspects of the performing arts. Their many other hobbies extend to playing the piano and drums, to swimming for a local club. Coming from Essex, they have found perfecting the French accents for the roles of Ngana and Josette a challenge, but an enjoyable one. Both girls are very excited to be back on stage as part of another LTC production.

SCOTT ROCHE DIRECTOR
“South Pacific” is Scott’s 7th show with the LTC and his first as Director. He has been privileged to play some great roles on stage including Curly (Oklahoma), Tin Man (Wizard of Oz), Ugly (Honk) and Sweeney Todd in our award - winning production of “Sweeney Todd”. This is his third show in a role where he has been heavily involved but unseen; he missed playing Fattie Arbuckle (Mack and Mabel) as he was stranded abroad due to the Volcanic ash clouds and he then played the voice of Audrey II, the plant, working offstage in our last production of “Little Shop of Horrors”. Having decided to take on the Director’s role for “South Pacific”, Scott can now fully appreciate what a mammoth task putting together a show of this size is and how essential it is to have a strong production team working with him behind the scenes on all the preparatory work. Additionally, having now experienced it for himself, he has vowed never to give future directors stick during rehearsals!

Prior to the LTC, he spent a number of years onstage with Rainbow 2000 and has played roles such as Arvide Abanathy (Guys & Dolls), Percy Fortesque (Fings ain’t wot they used t’be), Asher (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Sparkish (Lust) and Monsieur LeClerc (Allo Allo). Notable chorus parts have included a Munchkin (The Wizard of Oz’) and a ‘conducting frog’ (The Frog Prince).
South Pacific is Sharon’s 8th show with the LTC and her 2nd as choreographer.
This is Bradley’s 8th show with the LTC taking principal roles, including The Big Bopper (Buddy), Beadle Bamford (Sweeney Todd), Ali Hakim (Oklahoma!) and, most recently, an impromptu performance of Fattie Arbuckle (Mack & Mabel).
MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Paul has MD’d for many local operatic societies, including Rayleigh Operatic, Thundersley Operatic and Ingatestone Operatic and was Chorus Master with Rainbow 2000 for many years. He started his musical career at the age of 8 playing flute and guitar. He is currently Chairman of the Southend Philharmonic Orchestra where he plays flute (and percussion when “persuaded”) and also sings in local choral societies.

On stage, she has performed in many dancing and chorus roles, which she particularly enjoys. However, our production of “Summer Holiday” saw Sharon take on her first principal role as Angie. Having worked as a professional dancer in her early career, Sharon has enjoyed the new experience of actually choreographing shows. She received critical acclaim for her joint choreography of our production of “Mack and Mabel” and now, for “South Pacific” she has taken on the challenge alone. Outside of the LTC, Sharon is very busy as a full time mum and foster carer to six children and she has enjoyed having two of her own children, Lucy and Elsie, performing in this show as Ngana and Josette.

Before he joined the LTC he performed many varied roles in a great number of shows, including Nicely Nicely (Guys and Dolls), Francis Fryer (Calamity Jane) and Rene (‘Allo ‘Allo). By day Bradley is a graphic designer which he puts to good use creating all the publicity material and programmes for our shows. This is Bradley’s 3rd consecutive show in which he has been part of the production team, a place where he feels very comfortable. He was thrilled to be given the chance to direct his favourite show ‘Little Shop of Horrors” back in October. He relished the experience and feels very proud of that production which delighted audiences and which received critical acclaim.

Rob Watson is proud to be associated with the local Amateur Dramatic scene and has been involved with many events. A sense of community is important to Rob, and his work with local theatre groups, enhancing their productions with the use of imaginative lighting, gives him great satisfaction. As a freelance lighting technician, as well as working in theatre he also works With the Little Theatre Company, with the BBC, ITV and Sky TV. Doreen has been a member of the LTC for many years and in that time she has taken numerous leading roles, including Rose Marie (Rose Marie), Elizabeth (Robert and Elizabeth), Sarah (Bitter Sweet) and Eurydice (Orpheus in the Underworld), and has taken part in our successful Farndale plays and was seen recently on stage as Mrs. Fraser in the LTC’s sell-out production of “Stepping Out”.

Glenn has always had a keen interest in Performing Arts, starting from performing on stage to playing in orchestras and bands as a keen drummer and pianist. He studied Multimedia Technology and Music Production at the University of Derby, from which he graduated in 2006, and then worked freelance as a Broadcast Vision and Sound Engineer for a year. He has worked for Southend Theatres for nearly 10 years, on and off, and is now Head of Sound. Over the last three years he has been designing and engineering the sound for locally produced musicals at both the Cliffs Pavilion and The Palace Theatre, including the LTC productions of “Oklahoma!”, “Summer Holiday”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Buddy”, “Mack and Mabel” and “Little Shop of Horrors” .

BUST – Lady McAdden Breast Screen Unit The link to the LTC... Lady Dorothy McAdden, who gives her name to the BUST unit, is the President of the Little Theatre Company. Dot, as she has always been affectionately known to us in the LTC, was a member of the Company when the first production was staged back in 1949. Her husband was the LTC’s first President for many years and when he died Dot took on the role. Over the last few shows we have tried to demonstrate our support to the BUST unit in a practical way by making a donation from each opening night’s ticket sales: this has amounted to a total of over £3,500. As well as this, we have taken a collection as our audiences have left the theatre on these opening nights and we know that these have amounted to a generous sum. Once again, we will be making a donation to BUST from the first night of this show and taking a leaving collection.
Where it all started... The Lady McAdden Unit, affectionately known as BUST, has provided a major health function for women since the unit opened in 1976. The official opening followed a massive fund raising campaign which was spearheaded by the South East Essex ‘Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds’ to whom the charity remains affiliated, and supported by Lady Dorothy McAdden, wife of the late Sir Stephen McAdden, then MP for Southend East.
Why breast cancer screening is important... Screening aims to detect cancer in its infancy. Early detection of breast abnormalities could have a significant effect on treatment and beating the disease. In addition countless women have their fears allayed.

The National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Founded in 1899, is the main representative body for amateur theatre in the UK. It has a membership of some 2500 amateur/ community theatre groups and 3000 individual enthusiasts throughout the UK, staging musicals, operas, plays, concerts and pantomimes in a wide variety of performing venues, ranging from the country’s leading professional theatres to village halls. Members have access to a wide range of benefits. NODA is divided into eleven national Regions, each headed by an Region Councillor who sits on the Council (the ruling body of the Association), supported by a network of Regional Representatives and other volunteers. These volunteers are the vital link to the grass roots of the Association, the amateur theatre companies themselves. The Association is administered from its Headquarters in Peterborough, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff able to deal with virtually any enquiry relating to amateur theatre. There is a broad spectrum of ages involved with amateur theatre nationwide, from a burgeoning number of youth groups to adult companies, which meet the needs of all levels of both performers, whether dramatic or musical, and enthusiasts involved backstage, front of house or in administration.
