A Welcome from our Chairman Welcome to the Little Theatre Company’s production of “Summer Holiday”. Those of you who have seen the original film will know that it features many Cliff Richard songs from the 50’s and 60’s as well as a red London double-decker bus. If you live in this area, you may have seen our cast travelling around in a red London bus in recent weeks and taking part in the Southend Carnival procession. Our thanks go to the Castle Point Transport Museum on Canvey Island for their generous provision of this wonderful old bus.Well, you will be relieved (or maybe disappointed) to know that we won’t be attempting to get the actual bus on stage during the show, but you will see a very close copy. This is the first time we have staged this show and the rehearsals have been really enjoyable. There are even more songs than in the original film – I am sure that you will know most of them – and they are all catchy. I guarantee that you will find yourself tapping your feet as soon as the music starts and itching to join in with the songs. Feel free! We’ve had a lot of fun preparing “Summer Holiday” for you – I hope you have as much fun watching it. I look forward to seeing you all at our next production in April 2009 – the fantastic Stephen Sondheim musical that has recently been released as the highly acclaimed film starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter – “Sweeney Todd”.

Garage mechanic Don is one of four mechanics who persuades London Transport to loan him a double-decker bus for a trial run of a proposed travel service across the European continent. Don and his mates transform the bus into a hotel on wheels for the road trip across Europe. In France, they hook-up with an all-female musical trio “Do Re Me”, and after their car blows up, offer to drive the girl’s to Athens. But when beautiful runaway American pop star Barbara stows away on board disguised as a boy, Don and Barbara are soon are in love. This is Dave’s debut as Director. He admits he never realised just how much there is to do. He would therefore like to send sincere thanks to everyone in a great production team and splendid cast for their effort and advice.
Loulou has been with LTC for 3 years and is usually found dancing in the chorus. She recently played her first role with the club as ‘Gertie Cummings’ in Oklaholma! Previously, Loulou co-choreographed our award winning ‘Kiss me Kate’ in 2006 and ‘Copacabana’ in 2007. This time going solo, the pure volume of numbers in ‘Summer Holiday’ have been a great challenge which she’s enjoyed enormously. Lou would like to thank Nicola and Kane for their assistance and especially thank Dave, for the huge amount of enthusiasm and support he has given throughout.

Paul started his musical career at the age of 8 playing flute and guitar. He has been assistant musical director for the Eastwood Chorale for many years, and in 1995 was involved in a two week tour of the Seychelles playing flute and singing in the choir. Paul has MD’d for Rayleigh Operatic, Thundersley Operatic and Ingatestone Operatic societies and was involved with Rainbow2000 for many years. Paul has also arranged and directed a number of concerts and fund raising cabarets. More recently Paul has joined the Southend Philharmonic Orchestra playing flute and percussion (when ‘persuaded’)! This is Paul’s 3rd show as chorus master for LTC and he is looking forward to taking over as Musical Director for the next show.

Musical Director Paul first appeared in this theatre 56 years ago playing the part of Annie’s young brother in the Westcliff Operatic Society’s production of Annie Get Your Gun. Four years later he played in the orchestra pit for the first time for the Little Theatre Club production of South Pacific. Those two events played a great part in shaping his love for the musical theatre. Although he has played and conducted all types of music the musical theatre has always been his first love. He has now decided that Summer Holiday will be his last show for the LTC and has decided that this is the right time to hand over his baton. Since his introduction to the world of the orchestra pit he has conducted shows for the four main societies in the town and it is appropriate this, his last show with the club, will be his 100th show.We wish him a well earned retirement.

Having appeared in and directed some LTC shows, Tim wanted to try something new so this is his first go at Stage Management.
Tim would like to make a special thank you to his friend Ron Couldridge who has been helping, teaching and advising him throughout the planning of this show and is also backstage this week to lend a hand. “Cheers mate, couldn’t have done this without you and will never forget it!!”. Tim would also like to thank Dave Lobley for all his help and faith in him, Chris Jolly for sorting out all the props, Chris Izod for all his time and efforts, Ian Gilbert, The New Empire and the rest of the crew backstage who are giving up their time to help “cheers you guys!!”.

This is Chris’s first time as an assistant director and is enjoying every moment of it, and he would like to thank Dave for the opportunity to work with him. He has come to realise that it is a lot harder than it looks and really appreciates all the hard work that everyone puts in. Chris has been a member of LTC since 2005 and has enjoyed roles such as Ralph in Kiss Me Kate, and a Copa Boy in Copacabana. Chris would finally like to wish everyone good luck for the show.

Assistant Choreographer Although Nicola has been a committed member of LTC since the age of 14, this is the first time she has assisted in choreography. Outside of LTC Nicola
has choreographed many fashion shows including the recent Miss Essex FM and has won choreography awards at a local stage school. She has enjoyed working alongside LouLou Clark who has put together some amazing dances in this show and although they have faced a lot of challenges in rehearsals she is pleased with the result. Assistant Choreographer Kane has very much enjoyed being assistant choreographer and would love the chance to do it again. He has just started at university and so has had a lot to sort out for this. However, he has still tried to give his all to the show and hopes that he can have the chance again so that he can fully commit to it, even trying the role of choreographer. Darren is delighted to be appearing as ‘Don’ in this production of “Summer Holiday”, as it marks his tenth year as a member of LTC. He originally joined us whilst studying Performing Arts at College and has gone on to appear in 17 of our productions.
This is Laura’s 5th show with LTC having joined in 2006 for ‘Kiss me Kate’. She loves being part of such a fun and friendly group. As her first lead role she has thoroughly enjoyed rehearsing alongside such a fabulous cast.
He has played numerous parts for the company, including Billy Crocker (Anything Goes) and Bill Snibson (Me & My Girl). In 2005, Darren took a break from performing. However, he returned to the stage last year to play Tony Forte (Copacabana) and, most recently, Will Parker (Oklahoma).
Her love of all things musical began when she was 5 years old playing ‘Three Blind Mice’ on the recorder. She still plays her instruments today but is happy to say that her repertoire has expanded a little.
Darren would like to thank all his fellow members of LTC for an amazing 10 years and is looking forward to many more!

Scott Roche Steve
Summer holiday is Scott’s 2nd show with LTC having played Curly in Oklahoma and he has really enjoyed working alongside Dave and the gang, despite the dancing providing many previously unexplored challenges! Scott has been privileged to play some great roles over the years including Ugly (Honk), Tin Man (Wizard of Oz) and Benny Southstreet ( Guys & Dolls) as well as principle roles in concert versions of Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Miserables. Thanks to Dave and the production team for their hard work and for casting him despite being the oldest auditionee and Rachel and Jack for their love and support.
Kane Davis Edwin
Kane has been performing since he was aged 3 and enjoys singing dancing and acting. He has performed in many shows with The Little Theatre Company including Will Rogers Follies, Oklahoma, Guys and Dolls and even, as a new venture, a Farndale play. Kane has also performed in the West End, where he was in Oliver,Whistle Down the Wind, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which he loved every second doing. Kane has also taken an interest in the production side with this show and has helped out with the choreography, and direction when needed and possible. He hopes that he can commit more to this in the future as he has just started university, but has enjoyed being behind the scenes as well as in them.
Jamie Redgate Cyril
Jamie first started performing when he was eleven, because of a girl, (it always is) and has been hooked to the stage ever since. This is his third show with LTC but has been fortunate to have played various roles over the years such as: Scarecrow (Wizard of Oz), Rick (A Slice of Saturday Night), Frank Shultz (Showboat) and Clint McClaird (Wild Wild Women). He is really enjoying the part of Cyril, the character is a complete goofball and so requires little acting, (type cast again). Jamie loves to sing and act, it’s just a shame he can’t dance. Oh well!
Nicola Bott Alma

Nicola’s first show with LTC was Annie in 2000. Since then she has been a committed member, recently appearing in Copacabana and Oklahoma. This is Nicola’s first principle role with LTC and she’s enjoying every moment of it. She has loved working alongside the members of her girlgroup: Shazza (Angie) and Lianne (Mimsie) and also Kane (Edwin) who is Nicola’s boyfriend both on and off stage.
This is Lianne’s first show with LTC, after having a 2 year break from the world of theatre and having her 2nd son Jensen. She is very excited to be performing with such a friendly group and would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome.
Outside of LTC, Nicola also belongs to B.l.e.d Productions and recently played Serena in their production of FAME. She is currently working at Esssex FM as the Charity Manager and enjoys her role immensely. Nicola would like to wish everyone the best of luck. They’ve all worked so hard to make this show what it is so go out and have fun!
Some previous performances include Mistress Squeamish (Lust), Tintinabula (A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum), Dot (Honk), Mimi (Guys and Dolls), Madame Lola (Wild Wild Women) and Yvette (Allo Allo). Lianne hopes Summer Holiday will be the start of many exciting shows for her with LTC. Thanks to Russ for looking after the boys and doing the ironing while she rehearses.

Sharon has been a member of LTC for 4 years and this will be her 6th show for the club. She has always appeared as one of our dancers in the chorus and is really looking forward to her first principal role. Barry Jones Jerry
Steph has been an active member of LTC for 30 years and has enjoyed a great variety of roles in that time, including Anna in the King & I, Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly and most recently Kate in Kiss Me Kate.
Barry has been with LTC since 2003; his principal roles include Big Jule in “Guys & Dolls”, Gerald Bolingbroke in “Me and My Girl”, and Danny Gilmartin in our production of “Calamity Jane”.
About 10 years ago she decided to work on the other side of the footlights and began directing, starting with 42nd Street and since then, our series of Farndale plays and Crazy for You amongst others. She is also a member of Rug Opera and even carries her hobbies over to her job, teaching Creative Arts at a local further education college.
He is a former member of The Benfleet Operatic Society, where he performed as Fyedka in “Fiddler on the Roof”, and Big Jule (for the first time!). On a more classical theme, he appeared as Liberto in Monteverdi’s “The Coronation of Poppea” with The Essex Opera Workshop. For the past 3 years, Barry has served as a committee member of LTC.
Sue Morley Sandra & Friends
Although a regular ‘chorus’ member in more than 20 shows, Sue occasionally takes on small character parts such as The Fairy Godmother (The Slipper and the Rose) and Mrs Sowerberry (Oliver). However, she did play 5 characters in the latest Farndale production which was good practice for the 8 or 9 characters in ‘Summer Holiday’!

This is Lee’s 2nd show with LTC after playing Jud Fry in our last show ‘Oklahoma!’. Over the years he has performed many roles including Marco (A view from a bridge), Bottom (Midsummer nights Dream), Costard (Loves Labours Lost), Dogberry (Much Ado about nothing), Lelio (The Venetian Twins), Nathen Detroit & Nicely Nicely Johnson (Guys & Dolls), Pseudoleeus (A funny thing ...Forum), The Lion (The Wizard of Oz) He has very much enjoyed rehearsing with Dave & the gang and is looking forward the after show party!
Castle Point Transport Museum Housed in the historic former Canvey & District bus Depot built in 1934 and vacated by Eastern National in 1978, the Castle Point Transport Museum is home to over thirty old and rare buses and coaches alongside vintage commercials, military and emergency vehicles. The display boasts a heritage ranging from the 1940s to the 1990s and in addition to the classic vehicles has a wide range of transport memorabilia and costumes on display.

The Lady McAdden Unit, affectionately known as BUST, has provided a major health function for women since the unit opened in 1976. The official opening followed a massive fund raising campaign which was spearheaded by the South East Essex ‘Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds’ to whom the charity remains affiliated, and supported by Lady Dorothy McAdden, wife of the late Sir Stephen McAdden, then MP for Southend East.
