Puppetry is an excellent tool for enlivening the curriculum in a fun and creative way. Our workshops for teachers and educators offer training opportunities to enable staff to learn new skills and stimulate ideas to bring the curriculum to life in new and exciting ways. We run targeted in-house training sessions each term, or you can book us to come to your school or venue and work with your staff for an INSET, staff meeting or training day.

Using Shadow Puppetry to Teach Light and Shadows

The beautiful artform of shadow puppetry is the perfect vehicle for learning about shadow and light in a creative, practical and absorbing way. We will teach you techniques for making a variety of shadow puppets that demonstrate scientific principles and help children to understand how shadows are created and how light and shadow is affected by different materials.

We can deliver training in your school to explore ways of using puppetry in your classrooms. We offer whole day, half day or evening slots and can design a session to suit your needs.

CPD Packages

Puppets for EYFS & KS1

This session will teach you a range of simple but impressive puppet makes for younger children. The puppets can be adapted for different characters, such as animals.

Shadow Puppets

Learn the different techniques for making shadow puppets and explore how to use them with your pupils. Shadow puppets can be used for storytelling as well as learning about shadow and

Table Top Puppets

Learn how to make a person puppet that can be linked to story characters or history topics. Your staff will leave the session with example puppets they have made and lots of ideas for teaching the children you work with.

Cost: Costs are based on groups of up to 20 adults (we can work with more but this will affect the cost). Two hour session: £250+VAT Half day session (up to 4 hours): £325+VAT Whole day session (up to 7 hours): £425+VAT

All workshops are led by professional puppeteers and follow our Watch, Make, Share ethos; following a demonstration, students craft a puppet and are then encouraged to share and evaluate their creations. Well planned and organised, our puppetry workshops are a fun and creative way to explore the curriculum, and provide a high quality learning experience for all students.

Whether you would like to work with us for one day, a whole academic year or anything in between we can provide a variety of bespoke puppetry workshops and residencies, just ask!

We are now also offering seasonal ‘Holidays and Celebration’ workshops throughout the year, as well as Show Related workshops - an excellent addition to your trip to the theatre. We offer these at our Studios, at your school/venue, or as a DIY package for you to run independently.

PUPPET HIRES

Little Angel Theatre cares for a large archive of puppets, from Bunraku to marionettes and familiar characters from children’s television.

The archive has been built up over many years of Little Angel Theatre shows, as well as receiving generous donations from the public. Recently we have taken on 17 exquisite Indonesian shadow puppets, 10 Pelham puppets and 5 marionettes.
