Ground broken on revitalization Rabbi offers prayers for
peace at town meeting BY RIKKI MASSAND
Town of Oyster Bay officials at the ground breaking for the mixed-use development planned for 99 Newbridge Road. Local officials joined together this week to break ground for a mixed-use development project at 99 Newbridge Road, consisting of 189 new residential units along with retail and restaurant space below. Earlier this year, the Town of Oyster Bay Planning Advisory Board cleared the way for this project, known as Alpine Residential Development, to proceed. “A renaissance is coming to the Hicksville community thanks to this $111 million investment by Alpine Residential Development. Together, we’re moving forward with private sector devel-
opments and public works enhancements that transform the Hicksville business district into a vibrant downtown that millennials, families and empty-nesters desire – with housing, restaurants and office space near public transportation,” said Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “My administration is committed to improving the quality of life in our communities by revitalizing downtowns, improving local parks, and keeping property taxes down. Today’s ground breaking is only the start of great things to come in downtown Hicksville.” Hicksville’s downtown is
undergoing a renaissance including a $10 million State award for downtown revitalization. Future projects will support increased access to transportation, improved walkability, and 500 new housing opportunities. These projects, along with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s $132 million investment in the Hicksville railroad station, will continue to transform Hicksville into a vibrant downtown for downsizers, empty nesters, senior citizens and what millennials asked for and what will keep them here on Long Island.

At its December 12th meeting, the Town of Oyster Bay Board welcomed Rabbi Chanan Krivisky, spiritual leader and director of the MiYaD Chabad to present the opening prayer for the holiday season, with special sentiments for all lives impacted by the war in Gaza. The rabbi and about a dozen members of his family, including the MiYaD’s Program Director Aliza Krivisky, were present at Town Hall to take part in the opening prayer. The prayer Rabbi Krivisky offered, and the ensuing comments from Town officials, reflected a more solemn tone and the continued wishes for peace in the war-torn Middle East. Rabbi Krivisky offered the Hanukkah blessing with a message inspired by Rebbe Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, teaching “Great love, dedication and self-sacrifice
to make all of mankind know God’s presence.” “The miracle of Hanukkah is a victory of light over darkness, the many into the hands of the few and of the wicked into the hands of the righteous. The events that unfolded in Israel and have unfortunately reached our shores remind us of the necessity to stand up for what is right, what is moral and what is just, and to shine our light no matter how great the darkness seems…. the Maccabis were the victors in the Hanukkah miracle over 2000 years ago, and they give us inspiration to our leadership and our residents for light to be a blessing and shield for our government and constituency of our town, all based on recognition of you, oh God, our Lord and master. Through us, we can make our world, our community and our town, our homes, our minds and See page 12
