Fire destroys one Plainview home, damages two more A house fire severely damaged an unoccupied Plainview home on Saturday, October 16 and also extensively damaged homes on either side of it. According to Nassau County Police, officers responded to a fire call at 4:25 a.m. at 22 Audrey Avenue, and evacuated homes on either side of the fire as a precaution. The Plainview Fire Department responded, as did firefighters from Syosset, Melville, Hicksville, Bethpage, Jericho, Farmingdale, and Levittown. As a result of the intensity of the fire, homes at 20 and 24 Audrey Avenue suffered damage.A 49-year-old male member of the Plainview Fire Department suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to a hospital for treatment. According to the Nassau County Police, the fire does not appear to be suspicious, although the investigation is ongoing.

TOB: free autumn activities for seniors Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that additional free weekday senior citizens fall activities will be offered by the Department of Community and Youth Services (CYS) in community centers throughout the Town. Painting with Jock is currently underway at both the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center and the North Massapequa Community Center, and Chair Yoga with Patty will begin to be offered at the North Massapequa Community Center starting on October 25, and at the Glen Head Community Center beginning on November 3. “Our senior residents here in the Town absolutely love these free activities and programs, where they can enjoy the company of others, make new friends, and stay active and engaged as the weather gets crisper and cooler as we transition into fall,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Our senior activities are extremely popular, and as a result, we have See page 8
