The first meeting of the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce’s newest networking circle “Women in Business” was held online on Tuesday, October 6 and was met with great enthusiasm. Chaired by Carolyn Palladino from Excel at Woodbury for Rehabilitation and Nursing; Jo Costa, the former owner La Viola Restaurant, and Tricia Shannon of Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Syosset, the mission of the group is “to build relationships, and improve business goals, through sharing ideas, encouragement, inspiration…and have some fun!” Palladino also volunteers as co-chair of the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce’s Membership Committee. For the October 6 virtual Women in Business meeting she served as the moderator. One-by-one the lively group of Long Island professionals introduced themselves and shared their excitement on being part of a relaxing place where they could connect to others and exchange ideas, frustrations, how to balance the pieces of their life and obligations, their need to grow, and the importance of camaraderie. The evening was very interactive as participants brainstormed topics to be discussed at future Women in Business meetings—balancing work, home, and self; mentoring, learning how to develop their business, and how to “hold on to their original business mission”. They would be interested in having guest speakers to help with public speaking, social media, holistic health, time management and work-life balance. Future activities for the networking circle were discussed, such as wine tasting, community service, breakout sessions, yoga lessons, self-care, books and vision boards. Syosset Woodbury Chamber President Maureen Nickel, a longtime Woodbury resident and owner of BrightStar Home Care, stated “A plethora of Information was gathered and we are off to a great start! This group will no doubt see years of success and stay true to their mission of partnering, inspiring and empowering all “women in business”. The next meeting of the Chamber’s Women in Business platform will take place on Tuesday, November 10. The group is open to Chamber members.
