Town to host September 11th Remembrance

THE PUZZLE MASTERS

Syosset Library Puzzle Masters celebrate successfully breaking out of their puzzle rooms at a Syosset Library program for teens held in August at Puzzle Break Long Island. This summer, 28 teens from Syosset Library dove 20,000 leagues under the sea or entered a mysterious ancient temple to solve puzzles, find a key, and escape from either an underwater laboratory or an ancient lost temple at an escape room program held at Puzzle Break Long Island on Michael Drive in Syosset. “Escape rooms test individual and group problem-solving skills,” Sharon Long, head of Teen Services said. “Teens must work together, solve all

kinds of riddles and problems, and escape within the required one-hour time period.” For this event, participants divided into two teams. One team explored an underwater laboratory, while the other entered the lost temple of Etruria. The groups used maps, games, and clues involving science and math either to escape the depths of the ocean or to restore a lost artifact to the temple. “Teamwork and logic are necessary to progress from one clue or puzzle

to another,” Ms. Long said. “Communication and cooperation are essential—and both of our teams found the keys they needed to escape with flying colors.” Puzzle Break is one of many Syosset Library teen programs held during the summer. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announces that the Town will honor a Remembrance Ceremony for the victims of the September 11th, 2001 attacks on America on Thursday, September 6th, beginning at 7pm at TOBAY Beach. The Town Board invites all residents, families and friends to attend. “As we prepare to observe the 17th anniversary of these tragic attacks on America, it is important that we commemorate this day as the passage of time does not diminish the tragedy that our nation suffered,” Supervisor Saladino stated. “Together, we will pay tribute to those we lost that tragic morning as well as those who continue to pass away from 9/11-related illness. Join us in remembering these loved ones and honoring the brave heroism demonstrated by first responders who participated in rescue and recovery efforts.” The Town’s 9/11 Memorial is inscribed with the names of residents lost on September 11th, 2001. The Memorial features a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center. The September 6th ceremony includes a candlelight vigil, vocal performances, bagpipe music, and religious readings. In addition, the names of those lost that are inscribed on the wall will be read. For more information, please contact the Town’s Department of Community & Youth Services at (516) 797-7900.
