County to provide special funds to Jericho FD
On August 5, Legislator Laura Schaefer and the Nassau County Legislature approved a Community Revitalization Projects (CRPs) for the Jericho Fire District. The project authorizes the County to enter into an inter-municipal agreement with the Jericho Fire District to purchase protective clothing for the firefighters. The County will provide $85,000 in Capital Funds to the Fire Dis-
trict for the purchase. Following the vote, Legislator Schaefer provided this comment: “Firefighters put their lives on the line every time they go out on a call and help the residents of Nassau County. This protective clothing will aid the firefighters in their rescue efforts and keep them safe. There is no price we can put on the safety of these brave men and women.”

Syosset teacher has a unique business startup BY GARY SIMEONE Syosset High School business teacher Matthew Fiasconaro will have a new entrepreneurial perspective to impart on his students after successfully launching a new cracker business. The name of his company is Brewer’s Crackers, and the product has begun to line the shelves of grocery stores on Long Island after its inception in February. Fiasconaro said the business idea came from his brother, Kyle, after seeing how much grain was being wasted in the
beer brewing process. “My brother was working on the eastern end of Long Island as a chef, when he drove past the Greenport Harbor Brewery one day, and noticed all of the grain that was going to waste,” said Fiasconaro. “He kind of came up with the idea of salvaging the grain and putting it to good use.” He said that his brother ended up moving to Boston in 2017 and the cracker idea took off after a Whole Foods Market in See page 10
