Town extends deadline for Park comments

“SHOOTOUT FOR SOLDIERS”

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino (center) recently attended the Shootout for Soldiers 24-Hour Lacrosse Benefit Game in Massapequa, where more than $178,000 was raised for veterans and active duty military personnel. Shootout for Soldiers provides local lacrosse players a chance to enjoy a sport they love in a unique way while also raising charitable funds to support the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

Town needs donors in blood emergency

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Joseph Muscarella today announced that the Town will host a blood drive on Thursday, August 2nd, to help hospitals meet the ongoing and pressing need for blood donations. The blood drive will take place between 9am and 3pm at Town Hall North (54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay) and between 9:30am and 3:30pm at Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa). “Blood supplies can easily dwindle during the summer months, so blood drives like this are critical

to help hospitals meet demand and continue their life-saving mission,” said Supervisor Saladino. “I urge all those eligible to participate and help support our efforts, as blood banks need to be prepared, so that as many people as possible can be helped.” To qualify as a blood donor, a person must between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Anyone who received a tattoo within the past 12 months is ineligible to donate. It is recommend-

ed that volunteers eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days before the blood drive. “We are in the midst of an emergency blood shortage and this is why people should always donate whenever they can,” Councilman Muscarella added. Refreshments will be provided for all who donate blood. For additional information regarding the Town’s blood drive, contact Nancy Haarstick at (516) 624-6304 or visit the Town’s website at www.oysterbaytown.com.

To provide residents an extended opportunity to share their input, the Town of Oyster Bay has announced that the comment period for the Syosset Park Draft Environmental Impact Study (DEIS) has been extended until August 31st. The study was released earlier this year for a mixed-use development proposal located at the intersection of the Long Island Expressway service road and Robbins Lane in Syosset. In addition to the DEIS, the Town and the applicant have further agreed to provide an additional comment period for the independent environmental testing of the site. “We heard our residents loud and clear when they called for additional independent testing to be performed at this site, and the applicant has agreed to fund the work requested by residents,” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “The Town is forming a Citizen Advisory Committee to guide the independent testing process and all comments on the independent testing will be accepted through January 31st, 2019. However, the Town will not accept a final study from the applicant until the public has been given the opportunity to fully review the testing plan and final results.” Residents who wish to review the DEIS may visit the Office of the Town Clerk in Oyster Bay, as well as at the Syosset Library and Jericho Library, or log onto www.oysterbaytown.com to view a digital copy. Written comments will be accepted until August 31st and should be directed to George Baptista, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Resources, 29 Spring Street, Oyster Bay, NY 11771 or via e-mail at gbaptista@oysterbay-ny.gov. Comments can also be submitted through the Town’s website, www.oysterbaytown.com.
