CHAMBER AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

Is anything the matter with your water meter? BY GEORGE HABER

Members of the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce congratulate two Syosset High School graduates, Maxwell Spiller and Maiya Raghu, who were presented with this year's Chamber scholarship awards. BY RIKKI MASSAND

With fond memories accompanying the congratulations bestowed last month, two members of the Syosset High School Class of 2021 were awarded scholarships by the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce. One of this year’s scholarship awards celebrates the inspiring legacy of former Chamber of Commerce Board member and past Secretary of the Board Debra Parisi, who worked as a real

estate agent with Signature Premier Properties. Parisi passed away last November at the age of 61. Debra was an active member of the Chamber board of directors over two decades. Weeks after her death, the 2020 Chamber President Maureen Nickel, a longtime Woodbury resident and owner of BrightStar Home Health Care, said “Without hesitation, Debra would lend her expertise, her time and talent whenever possible. She was a wonderful friend

and board colleague and working with her over the years brought laughter and joy to the Chamber.” Immediately thereafter, the Chamber board of directors decided to name one of its annual scholarships bestowed to high school students in Syosset after Parisi. A ceremony to present the Chamber’s first annual Debra Parisi Scholarship was held on Tuesday, June 22 at Syosset Public Library. See page 8

since 2016. One purpose of the water meter pit regulation, says the Water District, “is to prevent the pit from being unstable, or being subject to collapse or creating a hazardous condition to anyone walking on or near the water meter.” The meter is usually established on the front lawn. “The Water District may send an inspector around during a routine survey to check for any leaks or service issue,” says Zak. “That’s often when a problem with the water meter comes up, and the homeownSee page 8
