Portledge student honored for volunteerism

Nassau County Legislator

Joshua Lafazan (D - Woodbury) presented a Nassau County Legislature Citation to Portledge School student Brody Ort in recognition of his volunteerism on Sunday, April 30, at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center.

For the past 10 years, Brody has volunteered with the Long Island Rough Riders

Sled Hockey team. The team gives differently abled juvenile and adolescent athletes the opportunity to develop skills and confidence to dominate on the ice. Brody, a high school hockey player has assisted players skate and develop their skills in sled hockey. He has also worked with the organization’s president, Frank Martin, to help raise funds to pay for the team’s ice time and travel arrangements.

“His simple act of kindness has connected athletes with different abilities and skills to support each other on and off the ice,” Legislator Lafazan said. “I am proud to recognize Brody for his unwavering commitment and dedication to the Rough Riders organization and its players.”
