Virtual reality tour coming to nursing center

Patients at the Central Island Healthcare rehabilitation & nursing center will have a chance to travel to outer space, different countries and to fields of budding flowers on Thursday, February 28. The Virtu-Well Reality therapeutic program will be presented at the 202-bed rehabilitation facility through a unique VR headset apparatus. “We are continually seeking innovative ways to care for our residents via modern technology that provide positive outcomes,” said Arthur Boden, administrator at Central Island Healthcare. “These virtual reality journeys are therapeutic and person centered and can be adapted to the specific needs of residents.” The Virtu-Well Reality program was developed by inventor Harrison Noggin, who wanted to give patients a chance to experience the wonders of a virtual reality world. “My goal was to be able to provide a way for individuals who have limitations placed on them by age, physical and cognitive barriers to experience the magic of VR,” said Noggin. He said that Virtu-Well is the first therapeutic program of its kind to use advanced custom configured technology to deliver high quality virtual reality experiences. “These virtual expeditions have proven to be effective in reducing pain, decreasing depression, combatting boredom, lessening stress, and providing entertainment.” Michael Ostreicher, executive director at Central Healthcare, said that one of the unique aspects of the program is that other people can join in on the virtual tour via a large monitor screen. “A patient can experience a virtual tour through the headset, and at the same time, other people can join them on their journey through this large forty inch screen that is set up in the room,” said

Summer employment at town beaches, parks Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town is seeking individuals who would like to work as lifeguards or summer recreation counselors at the Town’s pools, parks, and beaches on the North Shore. The Town is currently accepting applications from qualified, certified individuals interested in lifeguarding positions at Tappen Beach and Pool in
Glenwood Landing, as well as beach facilities in Bayville and Oyster Bay (Centre Island, Ransom, Stehli, and Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park) for the upcoming summer season. Additionally, summer recreation counselor positions are currently available at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Tappen Beach. “These summer jobs are ideal for our younger residents who are look-
