Syosset High School alumnus Anthony La Barca recently worked with his employer, Home Depot, to arrange for a large donation to the food pantry at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Syosset. BY RIKKI MASSAND Home Depot of Syosset at 111 Jericho Turnpike recently completed its first Food and Winter Coat Drive, led by one of its associates, Syosset High School alumnus Anthony “AJ” La Barca. With the help of Home Depot of Syosset manager Mike Gallo, a dedicated member of the Syosset Woodbury

Chamber of Commerce board, the hardware and home goods superstore made its large donation to the St. Edward the Confessor Church’s food pantry on Jackson Avenue in late January. “This Coat Drive helped many employees donate clothes that were in really good condition but had not been used for a very long time,

The completion of the theatre last month and upgrades to the library’s rear parking lot were a long time coming. Angela Cinquemani, director of the Jericho Library, said that theater had not received any significant upgrades since 1989. “It was a long time coming to make the space more suitable and comfortable for our patrons and accessible as far as all of the programs, performances and other events that take place here,” said Cinquemani. “All of the work was paid for from existing capital funds

within the library and from the generosity of former State Senator, James Gaughran, who provided us with $56,000 SAM grant. “ She said that the improvements in the theater space include new carpeting, more comfortable seating and viewing area, new railings and new aisle lights for better visibility. “It’s been over thirty years since any updates were made to our theater and we felt it was time, so that our patrons could better enjoy the whole library experience.” In addition to the upgrades to the library’s theater, there were also minor upgrades made to the building’s rear parking area. Cinquemani said that a new guardrail was installed, as well See page 12
