Skating through winter recess
The Town of Oyster Bay has some ideas for residents looking for fun activities to fill their week of winter recess. They need look no further than the Town’s Ice Skating Rinks – outdoors at Marjorie Post and Syosset-Woodbury Parks and indoors at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. Begin-
ning Sunday, February 16, and lasting through Friday, February 21, the Town’s three rinks will be offering special public session schedules throughout Presidents Week, providing kids who are off school a fun-filled wintertime activity. “During Presidents Week when most schools are closed, the Town’s ice rinks
will be open and offering a special modified schedule with public sessions to accommodate families who are looking to enjoy ice time with their children,” said Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Michele Johnson. “I encourage anyone who enjoys ice skating and is off from school or work during See page 26
In late January, elected officials once again gathered to honor the leadership displayed by business professionals in Syosset, Woodbury, and adjacent areas of the North Shore -- attending the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce’s 2020 Installation Dinner on January 27 at Lisbon Café in Jericho. Town of Oyster Bay Councilman Thomas Hand offered his hearty congratulations and thanks to the Chamber leadership, starting with its immediate past president, attorney Charo Ezdrin of Ezdrin & Woods P.C. on Jackson Avenue. “Thank you Charo for all you have done in the past and thank you to our entire Chamber of Commerce as you do a tremendous service to this community. I thank you and welcome you all on behalf of the Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and our Town Board, representing 300,000 residents we all appreciate your leadership and the direction this Chamber sets for our township,” Hand said. New Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce President Maureen Nickel, a Woodbury resident and owner of BrightStar Home Health Care, announced that it’s only fitting in 2020 to see continuation of women in leadership positions and as Chamber executive board members and directors. This year marks the sixth consecutive year of the
Chamber’s presidency being held by a dynamic professional woman; Ezdrin led the Syosset Woodbury Chamber to grow exponentially and promote its membership to a widespread audience in her three years, 2017-2019, as Chamber president. Her immediate predecessor and 2015 and 2016 Chamber President Chanbir Kaur, BNB Bank vice president and branch manager in Woodbury (8191 Jericho Turnpike) summarized the transitions and great leadership of the business association at the end of 2019, looking towards support for Nickel this year: “I brought our Chamber to be financially strong, Charo has kept it strong but she also went further and brought in more members and volunteers which is a huge plus. Charo has taken it to the next level,” Kaur said in December. At the 2020 Installation Dinner for Chamber Officials January 27, Nickel considered the significance in the context of American history. “Our country will be celebrating the centennial year of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote (100th anniversary of women’s suffrage). Just looking around this room tonight, it is inspiring to see how many women-owned businesses and women entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals we have - we have certainly come along way, with more to See page 26
