Faith Lutheran Church hosts Chamber of Commerce meeting BY RIKKI MASSAND

The ceremony will take place at Oyster Bay Town Hall, 54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay hamlet. The event is offered free of charge to Town residents but reservations are required. Residents interested in renewing their wedding vows should contact the Town’s Public Information Office at (516) 624-6380.

Although it was a cold winter night, the first Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce meeting of the year, held at Faith Lutheran Church in Syosset on Thursday, January 16, drew a good crowd of over 50 members, including several Syosset residents and area professionals. Faith Church’s Pastor Rebecca Sheridan welcomed attendees, including the Chamber of Commerce board of directors, to the Church’s facility and gathering spaces at 231 Jackson Avenue. Sheridan said the Church serves as a spiritual home for people and as a welcoming place for all in the community. Several times every week, the Church works as a community hub and gathering place for local organizations. For last week’s Chamber meeting she kept all Church facilities open, including the sanctuary, inviting attendees to tour inside, upstairs and downstairs and get to know the Church, herself and administrators including leadership of Faith Nursery School. Light refreshments were served and attendees enjoyed a great night of networking. “Our vision for 2020 and beyond is ‘Faith Opens Doors’ -- currently we have opened our doors to several community groups that meet in our lower-level space almost every night of the week. We have a Boy Scouts’ troop, adult Bible study meets on Saturdays, and we host four AA groups that hold meetings on some weeknights. We also have many programs for children; one part I am most excited about is our Faith Nursery School for three and four-yearold children -- it has been operating since 1965,” Pastor Sheridan said. Maureen Nickel, incoming president of the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, commented on women in leadership in every aspect of the community, with Pastor Rebecca Sheridan as one of the newest examples. “This year 2020, will mark the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote (women’s suffrage). And so how fitting is it to hold our first meeting of the new year at Faith Lutheran where a woman, Pastor Rebecca Sheridan,
