Arrest for multiple weapons charges
Christopher Price A Levittown man was arrest-
ed on Sunday, December 20 for multiple weapons and drug charges after he allegedly threatened two people in Levittown. According to police, Christopher Price, 74, of Levittown agreed to meet with a female victim, 31, and her male friend, 50, at Shepard Lane and Market Lane. Police say the female is an acquaintance of Price and had prior meetings with him for drug dealings. Police say the pair observed Price exit his vehicle with a shotgun, approach them and threaten them while pointing the shotgun at them. According to police, Price then
returned to his car and fled the scene westbound on Market Lane. The victims then called 911 with a description of Price’s vehicle. Police say that when they pulled him over and placed into custody he had a loaded shotgun anda vial of what is believed to be ketamine. At his home detectives say they recovered two handguns, and two “assault” style long rifles, one allegedly being stolen, that were illegally possessed. Also, police say he had numerous rounds of ammunition, including armor piercing bullets, high capacity magazines and additional ketamine.

Bethpage schools propose bond issue for upgrades The Bethpage Union Free School District’s Board of Education adopted a resolution at its Dec. 15 meeting to present a tax-neutral bond proposal to the greater community for vote on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The proposal calls for various infrastructure improvements throughout the district that were identified in the district’s fiveyear building condition survey. These include repairs to parking lots, sidewalks and flooring, as well as improvements to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. A number of academic enhancements are also included in the proposal to continue the district’s expansion of innovative learning spaces for students. The proposal also calls for the addition of two STEM labs at JFK Middle School, which is the progression of earlier work done to improve STEM labs at the elementary level completed in a previous capital improvement project. Libraries at Bethpage High School, JFK Middle School, Central Boulevard Elementary School and Charles Campagne Elementary School would be renovated to include state-of-the-art pilot classrooms. A variety of IT upgrades will also be completed, including refreshing SMART Boards throughout the district and improving cybersecurity. In addition, the proposal includes a number of athletic upgrades, including the renovation of the JFK athletic complex to include a multisport turf field with track and field events, as well as lighting to support evening use for practices. The renovated JFK athletic complex also includes basketball court improvements and the repositioning of the softball and baseball fields with turf infields. The turf field and scoreboard at Bethpage High School would also be replaced. The cost of the proposed bond that will be presented to voters is approximately $16.2 million. Planning for a capital project now will result in a tax neutral bond, as any new payments for the proposed work would replace expiring debt payments. Therefore, no new tax revenue would be needed to support bond payments. There would be no additional tax impact if approved. The district will host a virtual community forum on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. to provide an overview of the proposal. Information on how to join the forum will be posted to the district’s website, www.bethpagecommunity.com, prior to the meeting.
