BETHPAGE BACK TO SCHOOL

Central Boulevard Elementary School in the Bethpage School District welcomed students back to school on Sept. 8. The Bethpage School District welcomed students back for the 2020-2021 school year on Sept. 8. The district has adopted a full in-person plan, with students in grades K-12 attending school five days a week. Social distancing, mask wearing, alternative instructional rooms and the use of protective barriers will be implemented in each building. In a letter to the community, Superintendent of Schools David Schneider warmly welcomed students back to school while stressing the importance of collaboration and patience during this unprecedented year. “Our plans for a safe and healthy return will require everyone to work together

both in our schools and in our community,” he said.

“We know that Bethpage is ready for that challenge.”

Levittown man arrested in business burglaries Nassau County Police arrested Levittown resident Lawrence Yodice, 61, on Sunday, September 13, for allegedly committing a string of burglaries of local businesses. According to police, at 4:16 a.m., they responded to an alarm at the Speedway gas station located at 428 Newbridge Road. Police say that when they arrived, they saw a silver Mercedes Benz on the property, and that the glass window in the gas station's booth had been broken. According to police, Yodice was standing next to the Mercedes.

Police say that after an investigation they determined that Yodice was responsible for burglaries or attempted burglaries at the following locations: August 25, 2020 – J Thomas Salon in Levittown September 12, 2020 – Harmony Bar & Grill in Levittown September 12, 2020 – Carvel in Hicksville He was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Volunteers needed for Oyster Bay harbor cleanup

Residents are invited to participate in the Fall Oyster Bay Harbor Cleanup, scheduled to take place between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 3. This environmental cleanup is co-sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, Friends of the Bay and the North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association. “We are asking volunteers to roll up their sleeves and work at a socially-acceptable distance with our employees to rid local beaches and shorelines of debris,” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Richard Saladino. "Volunteers will help us cleanup local waterways, protect our marine life and beautify the shoreline by removing this litter and preserving our local suburban quality of life."

This environmental initiative provides residents an opportunity to spend a day working to make a difference, as debris that has washed ashore. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves with them and meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park launching ramps and waterfront gazebo located off of Larrabee Avenue in Oyster Bay. Additional meeting locations for the cleanup include Theodore Roosevelt Beach and Beekman Beach in Oyster Bay. Individuals and groups who are interested in participating in the Fall Oyster Bay Harbor Cleanup may call the Town of Oyster Bay’s Department of Environmental Resources at (516) 677-5943 or visit www.oysterbaytown.com.
