Woman arrested in 7-11 robbery

A Hicksville woman was arrested on Thursday, September 9 at 6:56 p..m. for allegedly robbing a 7-11 store in Hicksville. According to Nassau County Police detectives, a male victim, 63, called 911 to report a robbery that just occurred at the 7-11 store located at 11 East Old Country Road. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a female subject had grabbed cash from a male employ-
ee’s hand. Two employees confronted the woman and a physical altercation ensued. During the struggle, the woman allegedly punched a male employee, 43, in the eye. Police say she then reached into her purse while threatening to shoot both employees, before fleeing the store on foot with the cash register drawer. Get those bicycles and helmets ready to join the exciting Levittown Anniversary Historic Bike Tour that will take place on Saturday, September 25 from noon to 5 p.m. What’s historically significant about Levittown? How far do I have to travel? What will you see on the tour? Known for its unmatched scale of development to provide housing for the thousands of veterans return- ing from World War II and the mass-production techniques used in construction of the community, Levittown holds an important place in the history of suburban development. Bicyclists will visit some of the sites of significance in the history of the community. The first 100 adults registered will receive a complimentary souvenir booklet. All riders will receive an anniversary souvenir
brace- let and have an opportunity to visit the Levittown Historical Society Museum, if they choose to after completion of the tour. Anniversary memorabilia will also be available for purchase. All bicyclists will meet in the Town of Hempstead Parking lot behind NY Chiropractic College at 70 Division Ave., Levittown, NY 11756 and may choose from a tour of the north side, or a tour of the south side or both. Experienced riders will lead the tours and docents will explain the historical significance of the location at each of the stops. The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. The event is open to individuals and families and children ages 12 and up. Anyone under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent. See page 10
Town to host DogFest Long Island
The Town of Oyster Bay will host DogFest Long Island on Saturday, September 25 to benefit Canine Companions for Independence. The event, being held at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “September is National Service Dog Month, and what better way to celebrate than to bring your canine friends to a fun event for a great cause,” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “We
are pleased to once again join with Canine Companions to offer DogFest visitors a fun day of games, inspiring speakers, activities for kids, service dog demonstrations and more.” There is no fee to participate, however residents are invited to fundraise and help spread the word about the event by visiting canine.org/dogfest.
