Bethpage man convicted of murdering wife in 2016

Bethpage High School’s Regal Eagles Robotics Team recently finished a highly successful 10th season. After earning several awards at the Long Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at Hofstra University – including team captain Smiti Shah being voted as MVP by the judges and teammate Morgan Heller receiving the Dean’s List Award – the team earned the opportunity to attend the World Championships in Detroit this April. Bank robbed in Levittown

An unknown man robbed the Bethpage Federal Credit Union inside the King Kullen supermarket on Hempstead Turnpike on May 2nd. According to Nassau County Police, at 11:03AM, an unknown man entered the Bethpage Federal Credit Union located at 3284 Hempstead Turnpike within the King Kullen Supermarket.

The subject approached the teller, displayed a firearm, and passed a note demanding money. The teller complied with an undetermined amount of US currency. The subject fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The robber is described as a white male in his 30’s wearing a baseball cap, dark colored pants, and a dark colored jack-

There were four employees and one customer inside the bank at the time of the robbery. There were no reported injuries. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Bethpage man who killed his wife, attacked his daughter with a knife and led cops on a high-speed car chase that culminated in a fiery crash at a gas station and assault on a police officer in November 2016, was convicted of murder and other charges. Robert Crumb, 45, was convicted on May 7th by a jury of murder, as well as assault and reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. The trial started on April 16 and the jury deliberated for approximately four hours. Crumb was remanded and is due back for sentencing before Acting Supreme Court Justice Terence Murphy on June 14th. He faces a sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison. “This defendant brutally murdered the mother of his children, assaulted his daughter, and endangered the lives of police and the public in a reckless high-speed chase,” said DA Singas. “My heart goes out to the victim’s family and while no conviction can erase their pain, I hope this verdict gives them some comfort.” DA Singas said on November 4th, 2016 at approximately 12:30AM, the defendant and victim were arguing in the bedroom of their Seitz Drive home in Bethpage. During the argument over their pending divorce, Robert Crumb stabbed and slashed his wife, Maria Crumb, multiple times in her back. Upon hearing the commotion, the couple’s then 12-year-old son attempted to stop the stabbing by jumping onto his father’s back, but was thrown off. The defendant then attacked his See page 8

Mom and pop store makes move to bigger location BY GARY SIMEONE The Trio Hardware and Paint store has been a staple in the Plainview community for over thirty years. Last month, the mom and pop store, owned by Todd and Ritsa Kirschner, made the move to a bigger location to accommodate their facilities and customer base. “We opened for business a few weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out,” said Todd Kirschner. “Just to let all of our customers know, we haven’t left the area. We’re still here in Plainview.” Trio moved 1.5 miles east from 1032 Old Country Road to their new location in the Shoppes at Country Pointe Plainview shopping center. See page 8
