POLAR PLUNGE
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently participated in the Special Olympics New York Polar Plunge, held annually at TOBAY Beach to benefit Special Olympics New York. All funds raised at the event support Special Olympics New York’s programs and promote awareness of people living with intellectual disabilities in New York. Supervisor Saladino was joined at this great cause by Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson, Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato, Assemblyman Mike Durso, North Hempstead Supervisor Jen DeSena, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder and Legislator Steve Rhoads.
Legislators collect donations for Ukrainian relief In less than a week, the County Legislature’s Ukrainian Relief Drive collection bins at Cantiague Park have overflowed with supplies. Legislator Laura Schaefer, whose district includes Cantiague in Hicksville, and Legislator Rose Marie Walker, helped pack up the supplies. The drive runs until March 25, and boxes are located at Eisenhower Park, Wantagh Park, Christopher Morley Park, Grant Park, Nickerson Park, Cantiague Park and the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building. Food and clothing will no longer be accepted. However, there is a great need for medical supplies and personal care items for all ages. After the drive ends, the supplies from all the County parks will be delivered to the Polish Consulate, who will then send it to Europe. “I am thrilled by the turnout for this Ukrainian relief drive,” Legislator Schaefer said. “Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Arrested for burglary
A Hicksville man was arrested for allegedly entering a nearby home on March 20 and forcibly touching a female victim there. According to Nassau County Police, Carlos Villeda, 58, illegally entered a home on East Street at 9:10 p.m. and allegedly began inappropriately grabbing and forcibly touched the female victim.
Police say Villeda was requested to leave, at which time he headed towards the front door. The victim then closed and locked the door behind him and called police. According to police, they located Villeda in front of a nearby residence on Park Avenue and was arrested. He has been charged with Burglary 2nd Degree and Forcible Touching.
