Local schools provide meals, online learning during closure Nassau County Executive Laura Curran issued an executive order on Sunday, March 15, closing all public schools in the county for two weeks, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Superintendent of Schools for the Plainview - Old Bethpage School District, Dr. Lorna R. Lewis, said that last week's closing does not count towards the two weeks, and that schools will reopen on March 30. The Plainview - Old Bethpage district had been closed last week because of a case of COVID-19 in the community. The website for the Levittown school district said that the district would contact families this week with information about distance learning and the distribution of reduced price meals. The Hicksville public schools will provide students with information regarding methods of learning during the week. The Bethpage Public School district said in a statement on its website that the district's facilities will be closed for cleaning starting March 16 and students would not be allowed in the buildings until further notice. Superintendent of Schools Davind Schneider said that meals for eligible students will be provided for off-premises consumption. Starting on March 16, the Stewart Ave entrance at Beth-

page HS has been designated for meal distribution. Each eligible student will be provided with a bagged lunch and a bagged breakfast for the day, to be consumed off campus. Meal distribution will take place each weekday from 8:00 a.m. through 10:00 a.m. (Meals will not be distributed during weekends) Students may receive meals at Bethpage HS, regardless of their home school. For those with dietary restrictions, all meals supplied will meet their needs. Schneider said, “The District has been working to plan and prepare for a variety of situations. Staying connected online will allow us to continue to provide learning experiences for students so that they can maintain content, skills, and a connection to learning. Please keep an eye out for communication from your teachers." He added that students have been given Chromebook laptops to take home to facilitate home learning. “I wish to thank our dedicated staff and community for their continued support during these challenging times. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and the entire Bethpage Community are of the utmost importance. We will continue to monitor and update you as new information becomes available,” Schneider said.
