Town hosts candlelight vigil in support of Ukraine Members of the Town of Oyster Bay Board, joined by Ukrainian Americans and hundreds of residents, hosted a candlelight vigil for peace in support of Ukraine on Tuesday, March 8 at St. Josaphat’s Monastery in Lattingtown. Basilian Fathers and congregants from St. Josaphat’s participated
in the candlelight program which featured quiet reflection, religious readings, and a community call for peace. Donations of much-needed supplies were also collected and will be shipped overseas, including personal hygiene and medical supplies.

Beach cleanup March 26th Residents who want to give back to the environment and help protect the shoreline are invited to join Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board at Dune Day, scheduled for Saturday, March 26 at TOBAY Beach at 10 a.m. This volunteer opportunity allows residents to plant dune grass along the shoreline. Supervisor Saladino stated, “The Dune Stabilization Project brings together residents of all ages in an effort to protect and preserve our beautiful shoreline and environment by planting stalks of dune grass. This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for students, scouts, families, organiza-
tions and anyone who has a passion for protecting Mother Nature.” The Dune Stabilization Project helps preserve our beach and barrier island for future generations, Volunteers work alongside Town officials and crews, as well as residents from across the Town who share an interest in helping preserve TOBAY Beach. Bethpage HS senior named National Merit Finalist Bethpage High School senior Suchitha Channapatna was named as a finalist in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Channapatna is among some 15,000 semifinalists nationwide who have advanced to finalist standing. All winners of Merit Scholarship awards are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments — without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious
preference. NMSC, a nonprofit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring See page 14
