Challengers have emerged for the Town of Oyster Bay Board and Supervisor position. Democrats have announced a five-person slate to challenge for three Town Council seats, the Town Supervisor position as well as Town Clerk. For the first time ever, all five Democrat candidates are women. The slate will be seeking spots on the all-Republican current Town Board, as well as the seat of incumbent Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. Saladino was appointed in early 2017 after former Supervisor John Venditto’s indictment. The challengers are also seeking to unseat current Town Clerk Richard LaMarca. The Democratic candidate for Town Supervisor is Plainview Water District Commissioner Amanda Field, who has advocated for public health and safety initiatives and has campaign goals “to ensure transparency and accountability and protect public health.” In a March 1 press release, Field explains how if elected, she hopes to “restore confidence during these trying times when the community needs new leadership.” “I took on a tough fight already to become a Water Commissioner and I am here to do it again -- the Town residents are demanding action from their leaders, and they deserve it.” She continued, “Oyster Bay taxpayers have suffered long-enough under Republican fiscal mismanagement. It is time to put the money back into the peoples’ pockets and stop driving the Town into greater debt while they continue to pad their pockets. The ‘business as usual’ era in Oyster Bay politics and government must come to an end. I am honored that Nassau County Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs and the Democratic Committee have entrusted me to take on the Oyster Bay Republican machine.” The Town Clerk candidate is current Hicksville Board of Education member and 20-year Hicksville resident Carla Hoene. In her career, she works within an assisted living community. The Town Democrats’ organization noted that Hoene, a former PTA president and district PTA Council president, looks forward to the opportunity to further serve her neighbors and all Town of Oyster Bay residents. Three candidates for Town Board seats include Lisa Reinhardt, a lifelong Hicksville resident who has been proactive in tuning in and attending Town See page 15
