As part of a year-long service-learning project, students at East Broadway Elementary School in the Levittown Public School District teamed up with the Seatuck organization to create and nurture a Native Garden. At the Feb. 9 Levittown Board of Education meeting, students presented the progress made on project.

Pedestrian killed in Hicksville crash Nassau County Police have reported that an 81-year-old man was struck and killed in a crash on Jerusalem Avenue at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 19. According to police, the man was attempting to cross Jerusalem Avenue at Parc Lane when he was struck by a northbound 2005 Honda Civic that was being driven by a 20-year-old man. The
operator remained on the scene and awaited police arrival. The pedestrian suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is continuing but no charges were immediately brought against the driver.

College Board special recognition at Hicksville High School The College Board recognized a few select Hicksville High School students, which earned special recognition because of their academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on the PSAT and/or AP exams. They were recognized by the College Board Nation Recognition Programs with the National African American Recognition Award and National Hispanic Recognition Award. Cameron Hall and Samantha Mason were awarded the College Board’s National African American Recognition Award. Jade Amador, Sarah Chavez, Isabella Diaz, Matthew Membreno, and Kaitlyn Verdugo-Ortiz were awarded the College
Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Award. These students were recognized, because they scored in the top 10% on their PSAT and AP exams. Additionally, they earned a score of at least a 3 on two or more AP exams, and have a 3.5 GPA or higher. During a recent Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Marianne Litzman recognized all these students for their achievement and hard work during their time at Hicksville High School. Congratulations to all the Hicksville Public Schools’ students that achieved the College Board’s National African American Recognition Award and National Hispanic Recognition Award.
Kaitlyn Verdugo-Ortiz, Jade Amador, and Matthew Membreno earned the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Award and were joined by Mr. Ray Williams in their recognition. Sarah Chavez and Isabella Diaz also earned the College Board Hispanic Recognition Award, but were absent from the photo.
