Hicksville HS alumnus earns Rhodes Scholarship
The Town of Oyster Bay recently honored Hunter College senior and Hicksville High School graduate Dave Basnet. Dave is a 2022 Rhodes Scholar, a prestigious international scholarship that will allow him to study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom next fall. Each year, the highly competitive scholarship is awarded to only 32 U.S. recipients among more than 100 worldwide. Dave is a first-generation college stu-
dent whose family fled Nepal to seek political asylum in the United States when he was only 7 years old. “He did not speak English when he first came to this great country, and now he is a Rhodes Scholar; that is amazing, that is the essence of the American Dream.” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “Dave, we are so proud of you and look forward to all you will accomplish in your bright future.”
