The YOLO (You Only Live Once) Strong Foundation has a long history of helping local families in need. The organization, which is based in Oyster Bay, was honored by Town of Oyster Bay representatives last week for their numerous charitable donations this year. The ceremony took place at the Coach Meeting House restaurant. “The amazing women in the YOLO Strong Foundation have helped countless families throughout the Town of Oyster Bay through their traditional fundraising events,” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “During the pandemic, they were forced to put their usual fundraising efforts on hold, and soon the reimagined oyster festival helped them continue their very important mission.” The annual Oyster Festival was a virtual event this year due to the pandemic, and as a result, many of the local charities the event supports were adversely affected. The owner of the Coach Meeting House restaurant, Russ Lundstrum, stepped up and selected the YOLO Strong Foundation as its benefactor. Two families who are currently dealing with medical hardships and expenses were recipients of generous donations from the YOLO Foundation. “These two families who have children who are dealing with medical conditions will receive much needed assistance in their difficult situation,” said Saladino. Additionally, YOLO provided

financial assistance to a local charity, Danny’s Wish, which provides iPads to underprivileged children with autism. Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh said the women of YOLO are a true source of inspiration in the unprecedented times we are living in. “It’s so inspiring to see what can happen when a group of people who truly care come together for the betterment of others,” said Walsh. “The people that are helped by YOLO, they are families right here in the Town of Oyster Bay. They are our neighbors. They live on our blocks. They are students in your children’s classrooms.” Danielle Taylor, cofounder of YOLO, said that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many local charities and organizations of all different sizes. “We all know lots of families that have been impacted by this for medical reasons and other reasons,” said Taylor. “This pandemic has had a huge impact, and we’re fearful the children, particularly the medically fragile and ill children we support, might be impacted by this.” She presented Danny's Wish with two iPads compatible for nonverbal autistic children so that they can communicate with their loved ones. The YOLO Strong Foundation has over 200 women on their team. Over the course of eight years, they’ve raised over $750,000 through fundraising events for local charities in need.
