IDF vet describes Oct. 7 attack to JCC group A veteran of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) visited the Sid Jacobson JCC in Roslyn Nov. 20 to describe how he narrowly avoided being killed by Hamas militants during the Oct. 7 massacre in southern Israel. The soldier, who was unarmed during the attack, said he fled the music festival where he was a security guard, although he had no weapon, when the Hamas militants attacked with assault weapons. He took shelter behind a large bush off a main road, where he hid for hours. He said bands of militants passed

by the bush but did not spot him and eventually he was able to flag down an Israeli vehicle and flee to safety. He said one friend was slain in the attack and another friend was taken hostage. Various members of the JCC group applauded the Israeli veteran for visiting the United States to share his story. “It was a unique opportunity to hear a first-person report of that harrowing and so terrible event,” she said.
