An Amazon driver who worked out of the company’s Bethpage warehouse was arrested for grand larceny by Nassau County Police on November 13. According to detectives, police investigated a larceny of approximately $5600.00 worth of merchandise from the warehouse, located on 80 Grumman Road West. Police say that the merchandise was being loaded onto one of the
delivery trucks but was being rerouted to another location. Amazon driver Edward Seyfert, 48, of Deer Park allegedly brought the stolen items to his home in Deer Park and police say he threatened physical bodily harm to a 28-year-old male coworker to not tell the authorities. No injuries were reported. Proceeds recovered included a television and chair.

The Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, working collaboratively with Home Depot of Syosset, was able to furnish Chamber-member restaurants with outdoor patio heaters to help them continue to offer outdoor dining through the fall. Maureen Nickel, president of the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, spent several days coordinating and retrieving the heaters from Home Depot and making the rounds of area restaurants with the assistance of her husband, Don. Like a Santa and Mrs. Claus duo, they paid visits and dropped off some early holiday cheer for Chamber-member business owners. After several trips to Home Depot of Syosset, the mission was accomplished. “We wanted to encourage our residents to continue visiting local restaurants and eating outdoors. This became increasingly challenging as the autumn temperatures brought cooler nights. But with funding from the PSEG Long Island Revitalization Grant, we were able to purchase the necessary heaters and deliver them to the member restaurants. It was a labor of love as each heater weighs 50 pounds,” said Nickel. Jayson Drucker, Home Depot store manager, stated it was a pleasure to be involved with this project and even offered some complementary propane refills to the restaurants involved. Among those that received the heaters were Mara’s Southern Kitchen (barbecue and comfort food) in Muttontown Plaza, 236 W Jericho Turnpike; Lisbon Cafe at 399 Jericho Turnpike, which (pre-pandemic) hosted several formal dinners for the Chamber of Commerce and Town of Oyster Bay/Nassau County’s local elected officials; Butera’s in Woodbury Village, 7903 Jericho Turnpike, which recently joined as a Chamber member restaurant, and Hurricane Grill & Wings at 275 Jericho Turnpike in Syosset. Nickel, a longtime Woodbury resident, is the owner of BrightStar Home Health Care and has advised Chamber businesses throughout the year, also setting up many initiatives for them to learn about resources and ways to adapt to life under pandemic conditions, including customer preparedness and implementing new safety protocols. The Chamber has held many virtual meetings and special discussions as she’s planned a collaborative approach, building up the business community. “It was most rewarding to see how appreciative these restaurants were as we delivered the heaters. Anything the Chamber can do to help keep these restaurants remain open and serve patrons outdoors during the pandemic is a worthwhile endeavor,” Nickel told the Advance and News-Journal. “Hopefully, the warmth of these heaters will encourage See page 14
