Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recognized lifeguards and first responders involved in rescuing a 4-yearold swimmer at Syosset-Woodbury Park Pool earlier this month. On August 13, 4-year-old Vincent was playing with friends when lifeguards noticed he hadn’t returned to the surface. Immediately springing into action, lifeguards activated their emergency action system, and within moments the boy was pulled from the water. He was not breathing and had no pulse. After 30 chest compressions, he began to spit out water and started breathing. He remained under the observation of the lifeguarding team until first responders arrived and transported him to a local hospital.

“I take great pride in recognizing the outstanding and lifesaving actions of our Town of Oyster Bay personnel, especially during the summer months when our lifeguards and other first responders are often called into action,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Their combined efforts and quick actions saved this little boy’s life. They are true heroes.” The supervisor recognized members of the Lifeguard Team, including Gianna Magrino, Ryan Harrison, Timothy Nealon, John Shea, and Cameron Martinez, as well as EMTs, firefighters and paramedics from the Syosset Fire Department, for their keen awareness and ability to act quickly, decisively and courageously in times of need.

Permits-R-Us, a local company servicing client needs for permit, variance, planning and zoning application documents and more recently opened a new office and announced that it would be a gold level sponsor of the 2021 Syosset Street Fair. The fair will take place up Jackson Avenue/Cold Spring Road, north of the LIRR station, on Saturday, September 19. For years, even though PermitsR-Us operated from its Levittown headquarters, the company has participated as members of the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce. Salvatore Coscia isowner and executive of Permits-R-Us, and his wife Lisa was elected as a new trustee on the Syosset Central School District Board of Education in the May 2021 election. “Our office in Levittown was getting too small for us and we just moved everything into the new Syosset office in late July. Being on Jackson Avenue, here in our hometown makes it much faster to get to; this is a business location that’s just up South Oyster Bay Road, close to all major roads and highways including Jericho Turnpike, the LIE, Northern State and the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. It’s also great to be within our community for helping our fellow residents and businesses, who might discover our services by word-

of-mouth, social media or local online forums. People that have worked with us have posted good reviews about the company and we are seeing local business as a result, which for the most part is residential in this community,” Lisa Coscia noted in an interview. “We are so excited for the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce Street Fair to be back this year! This event is a great opportunity for families to come out and get to know the people and businesses within our own community. Living in Syosset, we drive past many storefronts and offices every day but the Street Fair gives you the chance to meet the people behind those businesses. It forms connections which are so important in keeping our local economy alive and thriving,” Lisa and Salvatore Coscia said. Russell P. Green is the Chamber of Commerce’s president, and like the Coscias he operates a Syosset-based business (RPG Wealth Management). Green and his wife Lori are also Syosset residents for the past 22 years. Their younger daughter Kacey Green just graduated from Syosset High School in June, and the Greens have seen their two children through the same school district where Lisa Coscia is beginning her three-year term as a board member.
