It’s 7 o’clock on a Tuesday morning, and many Long Island business people are taking to the LIE for their commute to the city or heading for the LIRR to catch the next westbound train. But for some, their day starts with an early-morning trip to a local diner for their weekly two-hour breakfast meeting with a dozen or more business colleagues with whom they share leads, exchange friendly greetings, and talk about common business challenges and opportunities. At Celebrity Diner in Syosset, one of these groups has begin its traditional in-person meets every Tuesday at 7 a.m. It’s one of more than thirty chapters on Long Island of Business Network International—the granddaddy of all business networking groups, which has been holding meetings at hundreds of chapters around the world since 1985. With the COVID restrictions winding down, networking groups have resumed or will shortly resume their meetings in person, and the BNI chapter in Syosset, Dynamic Networking, is one of the first to return to live, face to face gathering, in addition to hosting the uniquely pandemic-inspired zoom meetings. “Our meetings are about doing business, of course,” says Joe Tracz, a realtor with Signature, who was one
of the founders of the Syosset chapter. “But they’re also about building social relationships among business people who may work as one-person operations. These people whose don’t get many chances to socialize with colleagues." Another popular networking group is LeTip, which, like BNI chapters, meets at diners and office buildings throughout Long Island. Today, there are about sixty BNI chapters on the Island and about thirty LeTip chapters Observes Tracz, “Some of our members have said that at the end of the year they tally up business that came from leads they received from See page 15
