Skilled woodcarver sets up shop at Milleridge Inn their faces when they see my creations.” The 52-year-old East Meadow resident said he worked as a truck driver before he started working at the site of the now-defunct Indian Head Ranch in Huntington. “I always had an artistic side and I used to make sculptures out of clay before going to work at the ranch. One day my brother gave me his chainsaw and recommended I make sculptures out of wood after seeing what I could do with clay.” He said that a sculpture can take about 10 days to complete from start to finish due to things like weather condi-
tions, the necessary tools involved and waiting for the paint to dry. “A lot of the waiting time is for the paint to dry because I have to put multiple coats of paint on and that can go on for a few days,” said Klewicki. Klewicki also does work-for-hire, traveling to people’s homes to work on trees located on their properties. He said that he charges $150 for a small sculpture up to $1,500 for the larger ones. BY GARY SIMEONE If you hear the sound of a chainsaw or banging of handtools at the Milleridge Inn, there is no reason to be worried. The noise is the sound of unique sculptures being carved out of wood by Gregg Klewicki, better known as Gregg the Woodcarver. “I absolutely love this location. It’s like a dream come true,” said Klewicki, who has been working at the Milleridge since December. “The staff here is amazing and I feel like I’m part of history
being in a place that’s been here since 1672.” Klewicki, who previously worked on the grounds of the Indian Head Ranch in Huntington for twenty five years, specializes in making various kinds of animals, birds and even mermaids out of locally harvested lumber. “Since I was younger I’ve always been interested in making things and my brother kind of gave me the idea to start making sculptures out of wood,” said Klewicki. “Really, I’m just about making people happy and putting a smile on
