Environmental Town Hall on July 30th

New York State Senator Jim Gaughran will be holding an Environmental Town Hall on Tuesday, July 30 from 7-9 pm at the Gold Coast Public Library, 50 Railroad Ave., Glen Head.

The event will be focused on environmental issues. Senator Gaughran will update constituents on what legislation was passed this session including the Climate Leadership And Community Protection Act

(CCPA). He will answer questions, and take suggestions on what else can be done to protect our environment.

On Thursday June 20 administrative officials from Syosset Hospital at 221 Jericho Turnpike invited the business community and residents to June’s Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce general meeting. Inside the hospital’s conference room, the theme of the meeting turned to celebrations of connectivity, community outreach and awareness. Earlier in the day on June 20 Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Town Councilman Steve Labriola, and other elected officials participated in a press conference with Syosset Hospital/ Plainview Hospital to promote the 16 sunscreen dispenser sites now available at local pools, Community Park, and golf courses. According to Christine Patti, community relations manager for Syosset Hospital, the kickoff with sunscreen dispenser promotion is a start to this summer’s community events by Syosset Hospital and the Town, including free skin cancer screenings and educational programs scheduled for July and August. “We participated in an event at Syosset Woodbury Community Park this afternoon as Syosset Hospital has partnered with Plainview Hospital and the Town of Oyster Bay. If you have been to area beaches or pools lately, you will see our partnership with the town providing free sunscreen available in dispensers at local parks, pools and golf courses. Today we kicked off this program

at the Community Park with the director of Syosset Hospital and Town Supervisor Saladino joining us to speak about the importance of skin cancer prevention, which is very important to us at the hospital. Here on Long Island we have so many pools, beaches and parks that we really need to take care of ourselves and wear sunscreen,” she said. Alan Goldberg, who is chairman of the Chamber’s 2019 Syosset Street Fair Committee, said Mike Palazzolo of Island Signs & Graphics (235-O Robbins Lane) was the vendor who printed and built signage for the sunscreen dispenser promotion. “It is cool that we have members of the local business community chipping in for the cause and the project,” Goldberg said. Maureen Nickel, owner of BrightStar Homecare in Woodbury, is the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce vice president. She welcomed the 45 local businesspeople and Northwell Health administrators gathered at the Chamber meeting and noted that for Town of Oyster Bay residents, emails were sent out on June 20 regarding community events sponsored by Syosset Hospital and Plainview Hospital. “Many of our (BrightStar’s) local patients are either those who have Alzheimer’s/dementia or orthopaedic problems, and/or both and the majority of them would be in their 80s. From my first hand experience in dealing with people, so many patients who have come See page 4
