Town honors response team Town: Grants available for back rent, utilities

The Town of Oyster Bay has announced the availability of $16 million in Federal funds for those facing housing insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although this rental assistance program is being administered by the Long Island Housing Partnership (LIHP), qualifying residents can now register at www.oysterbaytown.com/ rentalassistance. After registration, the LIHP will contact applicants to obtain documentation and information necessary to secure these funds. Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “These Federal funds were granted to the Town of Oyster Bay to help residents recover from economic hardships created by the pandemic and government shutdowns. This rental assistance program provides critical funding to prevent homelessness and ensure those experiencing financial hardship are able to recover and rebuild their lives while having a stable place to call home.” The program is designed to assist residents with current and prospective rent, arrears for utilities and home energy costs, and other expenses related to housing such as rental security deposits. Assistance under this program could be provided for up to 12 months of payments, with an additional three months if necessary to ensure

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently recognized the members of the Town’s COVID-19 Response Team as “Employees of the Month” for the month of June. The Supervisor noted that the crew’s selfless commitment to the employees and residents of the Town of Oyster Bay has resulted in a distinguished record of excellence over the past year, during some very difficult times. These dedicated individuals were tasked

with creating a system for contact tracing, setting up testing procedures, facilitating the administration of vaccines and establishing protocols for each and every employee in the Town. Honorees included Bradley Panetta, Nicole Leroux, Sue Cowley, Kathleen DeTurris, Tom Bradke, and Team Captain Ralph Raymond. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, many in our community extended themselves to help

others and the enduring legacy of these times will undoubtedly be the way that people like the Town’s COVID-19 Team took action and made a positive difference at a time when it was most needed,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It has been a true comfort to know that you have gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep the Town of Oyster Bay employees, families and residents safe.”
